Got my first smart phone, need input on some apps

Featured Replies

Just got my first smart phone a few days ago, android based. Still getting used to it, but what I would like are some suggestions on some apps that those of you find really interesting/helpful/cool, etc. I know there are a ton of them out there but what are some of your favs? Free is best, but willing to pay a nominal fee for something that's a must have.

Which phone did you get? The BGP app is nice. I believe it's called forum runner. I had it on my iPhone but I'm too cheap to buy it twice. :lol2:

My must-have apps:

KHSAA Scoreboard

BGP-Forum Runner

CBS Sports

Yahoo Fantasy Sports

MLB At-Bat

Weather Channel

Kroger

Odds Insider (can't find a better one, unfortunately)

Any social media that you use such as Facebook, Twitter and the others.

Phone Aid, talks you through how to help people in a medical emergency.

As was mentioned, forumrunner for BGP.

Does your bank have an app?

All your local papers and TV stations

Yahoo sports

The Score

USA Today

CNN/ Foxnews (which ever one you like)

Got an LG Optimus L3 through Boost Mobile...middle of the road phone, but I didn't have to blow my bank account to get it and so far does everything I need and more. It's a 2014 Corvette when compared to the 1972 Pinto phone I had before.

What will Forum runner do? I can read and post to this website on the phone relatively fine...how will that app enhance that? Jim what is Odds Insider? Does anyone know of any stat tracking apps for basketball that will work on an android phone?

Shazam, I use it all the time. I've actually purchased a lot of songs that I will be out and hear and use the app to find out who sings it.

Odds Insider is just for tracking betting lines on pro and college games. What sucks is that it doesn't show baseball lines. It's great during FB and hoops season, though.

Any.DO-fantastic tool for planning and lists

Forum Runner (for BGP)easier navigation and quick posting.

Pocket-save the links to articles you find and don't have time to read.

What the heck is facebook pages? And I never understood the need for Facebook Messenger...can't you just get messages on the facebook app?

I like quick and easy access for exactly what I want to find in an app. That said, I really recommend these freebies:

The Score. Scores, stats, play by play, on just about any sporting event and it's fast. Also provides the line and over/under prior to the game.

Shazam is an awesome musical resource. Has come in handy on many occasions.

if you are on twitter or facebook they are must haves.

Find the best weather app for your area that's free and install it. AccuWeather is okay. Haven't really found one that I really like.

I heart radio is good if you listen to music via the phone. I like it but it does have it's problems.

If your phone is a Samsung, Milk is also a nice music option.

I've never paid for an app. Not sure you have to with all the options out there. The above is what I use the most off the top of my head. I use many others that seem to be hit and miss as I navigate through them. The Cincinnati Reds app is one that bugs me to death.

I have a run club and we operate primarily through Facebook. Pages lets me manage the club specifically.

You can, but the messenger app is easier to work with. Once again, I get quite a few messages from people --- mainly about the club.
