Would a movie about abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell succeed?

“Justified” star Nick Searcy says the story of one of America’s “most prolific serial killers,” notorious abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, is important and deserves to be told on the big screen.

However, left-leaning Hollywood is in no rush to finance the film so the filmmakers are relying on crowd funding to get the project of the ground. Searcy said the project has raised roughly $1.2 million so far, more than half of its $2.1 million goal.

O’Reilly was seemingly skeptical of the movie, titled “Gosnell,” questioning the idea of making a movie about killing babies. The host said he wasn’t sure “Hollywood people would take this even if they weren’t pro-choice.”

“Oh, yeah I think they would,” Searcy shot back. “Basically, it’s a true crime story, Bill. It’s a story about one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. It’s gruesome, it’s violent, it’s gory, it’s horrific, it’s bloody — and Hollywood loves those kinds of things.”

I'm as anti-abortion as they come, and while I applaud the intent of such a film, I can't imagine watching it.

What do you think?

I am pro-choice and I applaud the intent of the film as well and like you I can't imagine watching it and I can't imagine anyone I know watching it.

If the doctor is either getting threats then gets killed or commits suicide after he starts having second thoughts of what he was doing, then I could see it getting a better audience.

If the movie was about how the mothers then regretted their decision and showed the psychological problems they suffer as a result from their decision, I could see it as making some money, I'd maybe go see it. But not if it's just a story about the doctor who performs abortions.

Agreed. Limited market for the big screen.

However, if they keep their costs low they can go directly to the "Christian" market and potentially break even or make a profit.

Is their goal to tell the story or is their goal to only tell the story if they can get their money back?

But this doctor was much more than just an abortion doctor so I doubt that is what this story would be about. This man did some evil things beyond a regular abortion.

If their budget is a million dollars I would guess they would make their money back in the christian market. I don't know if I'd go to the movie to see it but I'd watch it on netflix.

I wouldn't want to watch the movie at all, have no interest in anything like that.

With that said, I have a problem with labeling him as a serial killer.

Yes he was charged with 8 counts of murder, but everyone of them were the direct result of botched abortions as well as a mother dying due to complications of an abortion.

When I hear about serial killers I tend to think of someone going out and killing unsuspecting people who were simply going about their everyday lives. I think of a serial killer who purposely goes out looking to kill people.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it as being the wrong title to label him with? It may be just semantics but I think of him more of a murderer than a serial killer.
