I've heard discussion is next school season (14-15) with new alignment to take affect in 15-16, which would mean 10 seasons with current alignment, IIRC.

 

Rumblings I've heard:

 

1) Meade County from the 3rd Region back to the 5th. Has been associated with 5th way way way longer than it has been in 3rd. In football district with Central Hardin and North Hardin, which are 5th Region schools. In golf/tennis/wrestling/bowling region with the normal 5th Region schools. Plus, Meade is the ONLY eastern time zone team in the central time zone 3rd region.

 

2) Some of the central time zone teams in the 5th (namely Hart and Caverna) could end up in the southern 3rd Region.

 

3) Hearing Green and Adair to a southern region (4th? OR with the Pulaskis in another region)?

 

4) The current 18th District will be completely blown up and the four schools will end up in 3 different regions.

 

5) All three Bullitts leaving Louisville and joining the 5th Region. Taking the 18th District (which will be vacant) and will be joined by Meade or Fort Knox.

 

6) Nelson County gets a district by itself. So long Washington.

 

7) Washington (kicked out of the 19th) and LaRue (18th goes by by) join Marion, Taylor and Campbellsville in the 20th. Although LaRue and Washington are not currently with Taylor-Marion-Cville, they already play each other in most sports anyway. Schools roughly the same size. And keeps LaRue from being forced to play the much-larger Hardin schools.

 

8) 17th District (Central Hardin, Elizabethtown, Fort Knox, John Hardin, North Hardin) could lose Fort Knox to a new district with the Bullitts. Could re-gain Meade or if Meade goes with the Bullitts, LaRue could join (LaRue borders Hardin, about 15 miles from Central Hardin and Elizabethtown).

 

Trying to imagine Bullitt East in the 5th.... Would that be considered a monopoly?

Get the 11th region all set for 2015, then nail it down. Until 2017. Fayette Co BOE is building a new high school in the Hamburg / Winchester Rd. area for 2017 opening. Also, Scott Co. last I heard was still arguing about when, not if, to finally build another and relieve the state’s biggest school which is badly overcrowded. Both these locations are in the 42nd district, which already has 4 teams, and Lexington’s 43rd already has 5. Would they change that, or just let the 42nd be a 6 team district and the 11th be a 19 team region?

 

I believe with the addition of the new Fayette County school and a potential new school in Scott County, you'd be more likely to see the three Franklin County schools shift into Region 8.

Doubtfully a monopoly, although they'd be good. But the fifth has solid big-school programs in Elizabethtown, John Hardin and North Hardin, along with other schools that seem to occasionally rise up like Bardstown, Adair, Taylor, Larue. Bullitt East would always be good, but they wouldn't always win it.

The technical center high schools in Fayette County aren't full time schools for students, are they? I was under the impression kids spent the morning at a public high school doing core content classes, then the afternoon (or vice versa) at the vocational/technical center working on a trade.

 

Good observation. I was on the advisory board for Eastside Tech several years back, and at that time they were planning to implement full-day enrollments by adding core classes to the vocational curriculum. The time and expense of transporting the kids being the issue, especially because some kids come from surrounding counties that have no tech centers of their own. I assumed that had been implemented. Just called and they said it was scuttled, never done. Also told me they moved the horticultural/agricultural component to a tech center of its own out Leestown Rd., and it's also a half day. Each student has a registration with one of the existing 5 high schools, or an out-of-county school. Thanks for straightening me out, usually my wife does it but she's busy this week.

In Bullitt East's last game, it lost to PRP.

In PRP's last game, it lost to 5th Region champ Bardstown.

 

Bardstown also beat E'town worse than Bullitt East did.

 

The 5th Region boys have went to the state quarterfinals 3 straight years.

They also have one of the best players in the state the next 2 years (Goodin of Taylor County).

 

I don't think the 5th would be a cakewalk like some people think it would be for Bullitt East.

It wouldn't make sense for NCC to go anywhere that Newport doesn't go, and wouldn't make sense for Newport to go anywhere Bellevue doesn't go, and wouldn't make sense for Bellevue to go anywhere Dayton doesn't go, etc. etc.... In short, the 36th is pretty tied together. IMO.
