April 7, 201412 yr Author I think what he's meaning is that most schools don't want their kids leaving after two semesters but who knows with Calhoun. That's why I posted this. It wasn't about Cal and his propensity to sling it. He does. That's now news. So UConn will tell their coach to NOT bring in too many one-and-dones? I don't buy it.

April 7, 201412 yr On the "wouldn't allow" comment. So, he is saying of a few players on a college team have great seasons that the school will tell them they are not allowed to leave school? One word: JEALOUSY!
April 7, 201412 yr Serious question here...take UK's class this year. What coach/school tells 2,3, or 4 of them no.
April 7, 201412 yr At this point it's been rehashed so many times it's not even worth talking about. Is one-and-done ideal for college sports? No. Is one-and-done the fault of the colleges in any way? No. Can the universities fix the system without making things worse? This is the NCAA we're talking about so... no. Why does anyone care what Jim Calhoun thinks anyway?
April 7, 201412 yr Coach K dont like 1 and dones. But he sure takes them if he can beat Cal out for them.

April 7, 201412 yr Coach K dont like 1 and dones. But he sure takes them if he can beat Cal out for them. Coach K loves one and dones. He probably has the second most since Cal took over UK. The UK obsession with Duke continues.
April 7, 201412 yr Coach K dont like 1 and dones. But he sure takes them if he can beat Cal out for them. Coach K doesn't like the rule just like Coach Cal doesn't like the rule. They both have the exact same stance. Coach K has never criticized Coach Cal's recruiting method. Just look at Duke's class next year. Coach K is the best because he adapts to current setting.

His post reads like an indictment on Coach K.

April 7, 201412 yr John Calipari Has Become ?a baloney? and ?kind of knows that,? Says His Friend, Jim Calhoun | The Big Lead Here's the line that caught my attention: I don’t do business the way he does. But he’s done a good job coaching. His way, one-and-done, most institutions are not going to allow do what Kentucky does. Not going to allow? I have no dog in this fight, but... I can't speak for Calhoun, but I'm assuming that he doesn't mean schools "are not going to allow" in the sense of saying "You can't leave" for that wouldn't make any sense, but that other schools' aims with their scholarship money would not be trying to put the funds somewhere where they're not going to benefit anyone scholastically for but 1 year, and perhaps reserve them for a student/player that would stick around, and benefit from them. It's a weird dilemma because what program doesn't want a fantastic basketball team, but at the same time try to push the idea that they are an institution of learning, where learning comes first, while big $ come into the school from having a fantastic basketball team. Sometimes it's hard to believe what a school's aims are when it's obvious what drives them, but they're not in the position to admit it.
