Why If UK wins the title it is good for College Basketball

Featured Replies

As for one and done, it doesn't bother me at all. If it were to change I'd like to see the NBA Players Union propose that can go pro immediately and if they don't they have to stay for at least 2 years. I know Jalen Rose mentioned that nationally last week and I have always felt that way myself.

Adam Silver has said for the last 2 years that is his #1 priority. It will get done but not until then. This has nothing to do with the college game at all. It's about the NBA owners not trusting themselves to make good decisions on young draft picks.

#truth

Are we really arguing about which of our programs is the most hated???? :D Is that now a badge of honor?

It would be fun to see a national poll done by SI or ESPN to see the most hated programs in basketball and football. I imagine many of us could guess the top 5 in each sport with some accuracy, just not in the order.

Yes PP92, Duke is hated, but for different reasons. UK is hated because people believe they are bending the rules to their advantages and others think they cheat. No one thinks that about Duke.

And if you want to talk about reasons for the hatred, the reasons Duke is hated is way way way worse than why UK is hated.

Rooting for UK to win the title, so it stays in the state, is like rooting for your ex wife to marry your brother so she stays in the family...

I'll argue about anything that I see is incorrect.

I'll never understand that logic. Ever.

Great analogy. :lol2: :lol2:

Maybe, you have to keep in mind that the players change every year. Brandon Knight isn't going to come to UK and play behind Wall. Is Davis going to come play behind Jones? MKG behind Miller? Lots of things could change if it was 2 and done.

Davis and MKG didn't play behind either one of them, they actually played with them. Knight could have been a casualty but who knows? I don't believe Davis and MKG were going anywhere other than UK, didn't matter what others did.

UK would have lost some of these guys, but in return would have gotten other long term projects. I'll lose Marquis Teague to have two years of Davis and MKG. Anyone would.

Probable losses would have been Knight and Noel. Teague then would have came to run the point and the 2012 team would have been intact. Cauley Stein is still here. This team is still here, no reason for them not to be. UK would be even more loaded with talent with the two-year rule if players only had the mindset of starting immediately. With a two-year rule whos to say that they would still have the same mindset?

Cal owns recruiting right now. I doubt that changes with any change to the rules.

My fault for not getting the specific recruits and time served down. My bad.

You know what I meant though. Sure Cal owns recruiting but he had the #1 recruiting class every year until this season because he could sell playing time to 5 star recruits. He loses that nugget if everyone has to stay 2 years and you'd be foolish to believe that he'd be able to pull in the top recruiting class every year like he had been if he has to sell sharing and caring to 5 star recruits. It doesn't work that way. Don't be naive.

I agree that Duke is hated nationally to a much greater degree than any other basketball program. However, as someone who lives in Raleigh and listens to local sports talk every weekday, I can say that there is quite a bit of negative attention given here to the Coach Calipari/UK system of recruiting and promoting the one and done model, and I suspect that a lot of college basketball fans across the country would prefer a team comprised mostly of veteran upperclassmen (UConn) to win the title, as opposed to a team made up almost exclusively of true freshmen who will not be enrolled in college next year (UK).

They are foolish and jealous IMO. Not one person who is a fan of those schools would say no to any of those players if they chose to come to their school. Not one.

Doesn't Cal already have the balance correctly? Loads up one year, gets guy that will stay the next. Makes for a perfect balance for 2 and done.

He does but hasn't working out like that due to too much success. Orton, Beldsoe, Teague. Cal didn't think those guys were going to be 1 and done players.

That's not on purpose. Poythress and WCS were one and dones when they arrived on campus. Terrence Jones was too. Teague and Goodwin should have been there 2 years. Lots of variables.

His entire recruiting classes would look different if kids have to stay 2 years. I'm not saying he still wouldn't have the #1 recruiting class I just think his classes would look a lot different than what they have looked the last few years.

I agree. Totally different reasons why the 2 teams are hated.

UK winning or losing will have zero impact on the future changes to the 1 and done rule. The new CBA in the NBA doesn't expire until 2017. The players union fought hard to keep the owners from raising the age limit in the last negotiation. It's not something they are going to budge on before it expires so people better get used to it for a few more years.

The new commish has already hinted at changing the rule before the new CBA.
