Interesting case. Brandon Backe says the beating he took at a wedding ended his ability to pitch. Former Astros Pitcher Brandon Backe Blames Police Brutality for Ending His Career | The Big Lead Note: 9 of the officers involved were suspended.

Also...

" The City of Galveston, according to news reports, issued a press release at the time stating the discipline was not for excessive force ... which of course is exactly what Backe and his fellow plaintiffs are suing the cops over in court. "

Sounds like a CYA situation. If they were suspended after the confrontation, but not for excessive force then what were they suspended for?

And sometimes people with authority are just as troublesome.

That's true, but the whole ordeal started when a guy tried to take an open container of alcohol into the pool area. There was obviously a rule about that, and it looks like he took exception to the rule and the security guard.

That may be what triggered this whole thing, but it certainly sounds like the police escalated it.

One of the parties involved was flown to the hospital with multiple injuries. A pregnant woman alleges she was thrown to the ground by an officer. Police arrested 13 people for inciting "a riot". Of course, 9 of the 13 charges were dismissed. The others pled no contest & received 1 day of probation. One man's case is still pending.

And you want to blame the guy who carried a beer into the pool area at a wedding reception?

What the cops are accused of doing is inexcusable, but yes I blame the guy who carried the beer for starting the ordeal. Nothing would have escalated if he had just obeyed the rules and security guard.

There's 2 sides to every story. The truth tends to land somewhere in between...

Definitely agree. However, save the truth being the wedding guests physically assaulted the officers/security guard, the amount of force used by the officers was extremely excessive IMO.

I'm confused by what you're saying. Are you saying you believe they assaulted the security or officers?

Does carrying a beer into a pool area warrant the amount of force used?

Are there any allegations that the victim used any force to resist the officer's commands?

I'm saying that's the only way the amount of force the officers used was appropriate IMO.

If they didn't do that, the officers were way out of line.

We don't know the whole story, all we know is what caused the problem to begin with. Just follow the rules, and there will be no problems. It's that simple.
