Just flat-out UGLY this afternoon. 10 walks by the pitchers is NOT going to get it done, although the Breds bats are not going to strike fear into anyone at this point as well. NewCath's Morgan Martini goes 2-2 with a triple for the only real bright spot in this one. I simply don't get it, this team is in a bigtime FUNK and some are simply SCARED when they get to the plate. :ohbrother: Hell, we got 6th & 7th graders on the Freshman team that take better cuts at the ball then what I saw today, sorry, but it's the truth!!! This team needs to find itself....and fast.

Bearcats Hannah Thacker was on her game tonight, especially with the high heat, as she fans 8 Breds on her way to the easy win. Olivia DeZarn with a 3-run homer, Julann Ginn with 3 base knocks, as well as, Aubri Anderson. However, the day belonged to sophomore Jennifer Brauer, as she goes 4-4 with 2 doubles and 7 RBI's. :notworthy:

IMO, too many kids are WAY too pampered.

As Patrick Murphy (Head Coach at Alabama) told a group of high school girls & parents at a clinic he was conducting...."Let your kid get used to somebody being tough on them! That's life, get over it."”

Pampered vs being tough, and being professional, two different things.

I guess we will see, my wife always tells me my "brutal honesty" is sometimes not one of my better qualities.

I want to see each and everyone of these kids succeed, not only on the field, but when they move on from softball, and they will need to learn how to except some criticism from a coach, employer, teacher, etc.... I give them a ton of positive encouragement, as do all the coaches. However, when they fail to listen to what they've been told for the umteenth time it's not going to be all butterflies and rainbows then.

As a "somewhat disinterested 3rd party", and having the unique benefit of being in/around the dugout, it was as Lawnboy very much understated "Ugly Ugly Ugly". The majority of the time it appeared that the girls were there physically but mentally they were on a very distant beach getting a tan. Likely a case of the spring break blues. Very little cheering from the dugout.

The girls had some great plays but never seemed to get any momentum from it.

I have to disagree with Lawnboy's wife though, at least for last night. The coaches were anything but brutally honest. **disclaimer(I wasn't close by the HEAR the WORDs of all discussions)

There were a couple of times where a coach was using my tablet to show a player what they were doing wrong using the pictures just taken. There was little reaction from the players. It's moments like that where a proverbial "swift kick in the pants" may have helped. **disclaimer(not advocating physical/mental abuse of a player.)

Probably a whole other thread on todays coaching styles compared to when we were kids.

Anyway... It's VERY early in the season. It's what, 6, 7 weeks before the district tournament starts. Plenty of time...

BOTH!!!

Truth hurts sometimes. In softball/baseball, there's very little time for practice in-season, and certainly no time to sugar coat things. Either you get it done on the field, or I'll put someone in who can.

It's one thing to do it in a locker room, another on a public forum. Social media can be a curse and adults are supposed to be setting examples. That's my beef.
