Villa Hills suspends police chief

Featured Replies

I'm a resident of Villa Hills. I'm not as close to the situation as nkuclubbaseball but I definitely side with him. I've grown up here and did the DARE program with Chief Goodenough and he and other officers often came to my school and were great. He coached my brother in basketball and my brother loved him. Anytime I see him out or pass him driving he gives a friendly wave. I would say Chief Goodenough is the definition of a small town police chief in a suburban town. Martin claiming he was "rude" is a joke, right?

This definitely has my attention and I'll be sure to hit the poles come November for the first time. Glad Goodenough has a good labor attorney in Freking.

Sounds like the mayor's a real peach.

Dan is a good guy. If you don't like him I'd say there has to be something wrong with you. This Mayor seems like a sack job.

Sounds like the mayor needs to be sacked.

Ha. Auto correct meant wack job.

They tried back in 2012 to removal him from office after nine charges of gross neglect and misconduct were brought against him. However, as I previously posted, two council members went in the tank for him. One was even quoted as saying "I don't care what the evidence shows, I won't vote for Martin's removal." That same council member then attempted (and failed miserably) to run for state Senate. Later he was arrested on DUI and possession of marijuana.

Based on the news video, Mr. Martin could be suffering from a severe case of Short Man Syndrome. Either the reporter is abnormally tall or Mr. Martin is, indeed, a 'Short Man'....He seems to have a lot of the symptoms....

Short Man Syndrome

It's a freakin' circus over there anymore! I have lots of family in Villa Hills and they are tired of all of this and embarrassed by the publicity it continues to generate.

The Mayor has made this whole thing a laughing stock. How that joke hasn't been forced from office yet is the joke.

Is it me or does it seem that the Mayor feels that he can do what he wants when he wants?

There is more to this story than is being said, oh wait no one can say anything because the the Mayor issued an executive order stating that they couldn't talk without his permission.

Something :poop:

It all goes back to when the mayor was arrested for forgery before he was the mayor and he has been hell bent on firing the chief and dissolving the PD all together.

Council was supposed to vote this past Wednesday on the removal of Chief Goodenough but twenty minutes into the public council meeting, they went into a private executive session. No decision was reached and from my understanding, they will be reconvening on Monday to further discuss the matter.

Mayor Mike Martin files charges against Villa Hills police chief Dan Goodenough - Local News Story

The above is an article about the meeting this past Wednesday.

Some specific parts I question:

Martin accused his police chief of violating the law, violating city policy and just being rude.

I have never in my 15+ years of knowing Chief Goodenough have known him to be rude. As I've posted before he's probably the nicest person I know.

He referred to a state audit from 2013, which accused Goodenough of incorrectly paying a detective.

I am pretty sure Chief Dan does not do the payroll for the city. That would be the mayor and city clerk. So really the state audit (which I have read) points out the errors in Martin's ways, not Chief Goodenough's.

During a council meeting last year, Martin said Goodenough failed to remove a loud heckler, going against the mayor's demand.

The "heckler" made one comment that Martin did not agree with. Martin demanded that they be removed. Chief Goodenough went to the individual, leaned down, asked that they not make any more comments and the individual obliged. They did not say anything else and continued to watch the rest of the meeting in silence.

So while the Chief did not remove the "heckler" (which didn't need to be done IMO), he took care of the situation in a matter of 10 seconds.

I think ...or should I say know this Mayor is a first class D-Bag. I really truly hope the folks of that city vote him out next election. I'm just wandering what type of smear campaign he will launch against whoever chooses to run against him. You know it's coming and why his cronies go along with his tactics is beyond me. He's made what was once a great city a laughing stock.

As an observer of this one, it's hard to tell when you drive through the city what the issues are…when you watch the news, it's still hard to tell..until last night when one of the charges by the Mayor was that the police chief, among other things was "rude". Now I know which side to believe. Who brings a 63 page indictment against somebody with one of the charges being "rude" ? I will refer you to the description of: megalomania. You be the judge.

Last Monday (3/17) was part one of the chief's removal hearing. The city rested their case and since it was late they adjourned. The second part (the chief's case) took place this evening. They rested their case and then closing arguments took place.

I believe around 10 the council members went into executive session to deliberate, as they are the jury in this matter. As of now (1am) they are still deliberating.

The screwy part is that if they come to a 3-3 vote, the mayor gets to cast the deciding vote.
