VILLA HILLS – City Police Chief Dan Goodenough, a 27-year member of the Villa Hills Police Department, was suspended March 5, his attorney confirmed Tuesday. The question remains: Why?

 

“He’s been suspended,” said Randy Freking of Freking and Betz. “Now we don’t think there’s any good reason for the suspension and we are hopeful the council will reinstate Dan soon so he can resume his duties as police chief.”

 

Freking said he thought it was a “political issue in Northern Kentucky, adding, “it’s too bad because the citizens will be adversely affected.”

 

Through the recent controversies, Goodenough has declined to comment, citing an executive order Martin issued last year that prohibits city staff from talking to the media without the mayor’s permission.

 

A group of citizens is planning a meeting entitled Keep Our Police Chief for 7-9 p.m. Friday at Madonna Manor community center building, 2344 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills.

 

Organizer and Villa Hills resident Tom Wenning said there’s “a small group of us that don’t think things have been happening correctly and fairly in the city, mainly dealing with the police department.”

There's been drama in that PD for years. How this guy survived 27 years in that mess is amazing to me.

There is more to this story than is being said, oh wait no one can say anything because the the Mayor issued an executive order stating that they couldn't talk without his permission.

Now the reason he was probably suspended is because the mayor does not like him. Chief Goodenough and former-detective Schutzman arrested Mayor Martin in 2007 (when he was a council member) for forgery. Since that day, Martin has publicly stated he does not like the Villa Hills PD. He has attempted to disband the department and outsource police coverage but has been unsuccessful. He was however successful in getting Schutzman to resign after years of abuse. A lawsuit is pending on that.

 

This seems to be the next step in Martin's plan to do away with the police department. I fear another lawsuit will come out of this.

As for Chief Goodenough, you will never meet a nicer man than him. I have known him for many years going back to when he was just Officer Dan and he always placed the residents of Villa Hills first. You could approach him at any time and he would be willing to answer any questions you may have. It's truly a shame the way he's been treated after all he has done for the city.

The citizens did vote him in in 2010. Don't have a chance to vote him out until this November. He was brought up on 9 charges by the previous city council in 2012 (I think) but two council members went in the tank for him and voted against his removal from office.
