Fairview board declines Musick resignation

Superintendent says he had ‘a change of heart’

Mike James

The Independent

WESTWOOD — Fairview Superintendent Bill Musick said he had “a change of heart” and it was at his request that the board of education on Feb. 24 declined to accept the resignation he had offered in December.

“It was strictly my decision. I asked them,” he said Wednesday.

The controversy that followed revelations that the Fairview football program had used an ineligible player during the 2012 season and part of the 2013 season did not play a part in his initial decision to quit, he said.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association penalized Fairview for the offense with a 2013 postseason ban, forfeits, a fine and four years of probation.

Head coach Nathan McPeek and athletic director/principal Garry McPeek were demoted to teaching positions and Garry McPeek is leaving the district at the end of the school year.

Fairview, in the wake of a KHSAA ruling and ground breaking sanctions, agreed to self-imposed sanctions and some added on by the KHSAA. In the wake, the principal/assistant coach/AD was demoted to teacher, the Head Coach was fired, and the Superintendent resigned. Now it looks like the Superintendent changed his mind after all the smoke cleared.

Cut the head off, the snake dies. Leave the head attached, it will just grow a new body.

Does this mean there is still rental property open?

Yep ! Above all that, the man actually made the statement (again) that his original reason of resigning had nothing to do with what happened with the football program :ohbrother: :lol2: ! He gave the reason as being a bad back, I do not doubt that he may have a, still has back problems. I along with millions of others do but as the saying goes....." C'mon man" . Right....and I have a mountain condo in Worthington, KY. that I would love to sell to anyone that believes that.

Who said anything about charging rent ? Or lets say very low $$ rent, utilities paid to some special "occupants" ??

:deadhorse: ..... same ol', same ol' I would say. All persons involved still present with different "job titles"......Right .

:thumb: Yep, I guess the "healing process" is over, uh? Especially when board member / members "hung up" on the local newspaper reporters when they called for comment, uh ?

local HS's should refuse to play them in any sport .

I 100% agree with you. I actually hope that all that can will end their contract with them. Our situation is that they are in our football district and we have to play them. I have no say in the matter at Raceland but I would not play them in any other sport (unless of course in a dist/region tourney when you had to).

BTW.... I tried to edit a post of mine above on this (to keep from adding a seperate post - was too late) but The Local Paper, media also had tried to check for a job listing on the superintendent position at FHS after the original resignation (I am pretty sure that schools are required to post it) and could not find it anywhere on the school or state web site.

Doesn't that seem even more suspicious considering the "return/change of heart" comes right before the start of Spring football practice ?? Don't know, just sayin'.

I agree 100%

What a joke, this guy should be embarrassed and all the parents that have kids in the program should be ashamed for letting this continue.

It sure sounds like a case of big ego's not letting any outsiders tell them what to do. I wish the KHSAA had more say and could force them out of competing in any district and post season. Basically give them the death sentence.

If the resignation of the Superintendent is in the communication to the KHSAA, would this not be considered a parole violation? I dont know what was discussed or written down, only what is reported in the news. This whole thing is a little sketchy, hiring a former assistant with Huntington ties and the change of heart of the Super? I cant understand how the BOE can take the black eye they did in regards to TEST SCORES and football and the allegations of out of control spending and not hold him accountable. I say change the school colors to yellow.

Unfortunate because I hear it was the Superintendent that hung out the Head Coach, AD/Principal out to dry. Doesn't seem right that he keeps his job and others can not. Anyone really surprised by this? Didn't they stay in house with their coaching hire too?

This Superintendent is the same one that hung Chad Tackett out to dry so he could bring in the McPeeks to get the ball rolling on their destruction of the program. He has really brought a bad name to the school and yet the elected officials continue to let him run their school system. The players are not to blame for this and yes the KHSAA had to hand down sanctions but they should not be penalized for the decisions of the adults in this situation. If it was me and I was a tax payer in this district then I would make sure not one board member was re-elected. I think this is a travesty to the educational system that this man continues to draw an enormous salary in the midst of his short comings and moral fiber. I hope that someone can right this wrong for the schools sake.

Now it looks like the Superintendent changed his mind after all.

Related to Brett Favre?

Chad Tackett was the coach when all of the "Huntington, WVA Express" started. From what I understand is that when after C. Jennings, the first WVA "transfer" had graduated, began the process of setting things up to start bringing in more. Coach Tackett wasn't buying into it, didn't want to go along with all of it so the was relieved of coaching duties. Tackett remained at the school as a teacher, was hired by Ashland Paul Blazer as an assistant coach.

Tackett was doing a great job at Fairview, he is a class act and was actually was bringing respect to that program. I guess that didn't go over.
