I maybe bias just because I'm a LexCath fan, but this upcoming season will be a great one for the Knights. More experience and better depth on the line. Deeper and more choices at the receiver position and the beast Jaylen Jones and Carter Gray at RB. Ryan returns at the QB spot and return/ experience at the LB with tons of talented JV players that saw tons of playing time last season.

Losing David Bouvier, 6th leading receiver in STATE history, and Justin Brownell, who started every game last year, and Marcelis Logan, a kid who had D-1 offers and who would slide out to the slot in 4 wide sets to graduation is big, they will be hard to replace. Then you have Sam Letton, already with an SEC offer, leaving to play in Georgia with his dad and Donovan Morris, a talented kid who started a couple games as a soph, deciding to focus on basketball. Thats the top 5 guys from last year. I don't know how you could argue we'll be deeper as a lot of the guys coming up are unproven in Varsity play.

 

In fact when I think about it the only question marks on this team are the Wideouts and how the team will react to a new head coach. I believe that having the majority of the assistants stay on staff will help with the latter.

 

I do think that WRs will be very good though despite what I typed earlier. A core of JJ Ogbogu, Jordan Hatton, Andy Hickey, and the Thompson twins sounds very good and has a lot of potential. That group, which there could be others, has size in Hatton, speed in the Thompsons, and both size and speed in Ogbogu in Hickey. They just need to show it on the Varsity field.

My point is that last season, Lex Cath had 2 GO TO receivers. Knights needed a big play or long pass, they go to Letton. When the Knights needed a possession, short yardage or needed a 1st down, they went to Bouiver. No other receivers were a factor. They had no TE and the Brownell kid you mention was just an average who had many drops. What im saying this season, they have more to spread the wealth around. No 1 or 2 top guns. Hatton, Hickey, Thompson twins, JJ, Jones, Carter, Couch, Herrington... I have also seen some freshman skill players that played JV last season that can make an impact ( Pedroche & Buchignani ). Also keep an eye out for an O'neil kid at receiver. He's a Lex Cath baseball player who has relatives on the team. He played youth and middle school football with my godson. Excellent athlete.

I think the connection that Ryan had with Letton and Bouvier was possible due in part to the talent of all three. IMO I don't think catholic has kids of the same caliber of Bouvier or Letton this year.

The rushing total will improve and just because the receivers last year didn't have big numbers didn't mean they weren't ready. Reese didn't have a lot playing time until the Kyle injury but when he got his chance he did very well. The only way we can find out is giving them that chance. The new regime will do just that.

Letton and Bouvier are SEC caliber receivers. I'm not sure how that can be so easily replaced.

Stats say 149 yes per game between the two. Bouvier had 8 TD's n Letton had 11 TD's. In case you think that's normal, Bouvier was third in TD's in 4A n Letton was in the top ten. If there are tons out there, why didn't they?

1. I literally listed 3 other kids that were weapons that Ryan had to throw to last year so I don't know why you would think I was saying they were the only options.

2. If you're one of the few crazies who think that Coach Letton calling plays for Sam and David was a bad thing then your football knowledge is beyond help.

3. Jaylen Jones plays an entirely other position from Bouvier and Letton, if you want to talk about him replacing Mitchell's and Logan's production than we can do that separately.

4. I agree with you on the last point though haha. LexCath is a next man up kind of program and will be fine no matter who is playing. I just think you're not giving the past players credit for how good they were.
