March 3, 201412 yr I will disagree with those that said Gravity is boring. I thought it was intense in spots. With that I thought the movie overall was just OK. I watched Blue Jasmine Friday evening. LOVED the actors in it and their roles. Hated the ending. I am looking forward to checking out Wolf, 12 Years..., and Nebraska.
March 3, 201412 yr I really liked Gravity. Thought it was well deserving of most of its accolades. Nebraska or Inside Llewyn Davis should have won for Cinematography. Two movies that were just beautifully photographed.

I thought, similar to Titanic, that the voters were wowed by Gravity's incredibly heavily special-effects driven format, and the difficulties that go along with acting, shooting, and directing a movie like that. I think those things are understandably impressive, but the wow factor of a movie like that can sometimes blind folks to other deserving performances. Similarly, I think when actors go out of their way to alter their appearances (i.e. - lose/gain weight, or sacrifice their vanity to make themselves look less attractive for a role), it generally pays off ten-fold when it comes to Oscar voting. See: Robert DeNiro (Raging Bull), Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry), Halle Berry (Monster's Ball), Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Charlize Theron (Monster).
