In an interview he said he wanted to see if any of his bullpen could be used as a starter in case they run into situations like last year where a starting pitcher had to miss one or maybe two starts and they did not want to have to put the starter on the DL. He said Simon is one of those candidates.

He said Simon is one of those candidates. That's just dumb. Price already knows what Simon is capable of. He's been the long man out of the pen for the past couple of years. Having him start the opener of the Spring isn't going to tell Price anything. If a starting pitcher gets injured during the season Simon could fill in a start or to, but if he's not stretched out 4 innings is the max they would probably get out of him.

February 28, 201412 yr He could've thrown two simulated innings prior to the game and 2 live innings. Gets 4 innings of work but only eats up 2 innings of live baseball, so other guys can get work. Means little that he started, even if Price wants to know if he can start in an emergency.
February 28, 201412 yr The answer to this question is Cueto and here is why. Cueto when healthy is an ace. Latos could be as well. Bailey has the potential but is too inconsistent. For the first month of the season, you want your ace throwing against the other teams #1. This is where they Reds have the advantage over bad teams. When they play the Brewers, Cubs, and others, the Reds 3,4,5 are better than others. Bailey would struggle if he went against #1s for a good portion of the season. Also, the Reds play the Cards 6 times in the first 2 weeks. These are big games and they will want Cueto and Latos getting 2 starts against because of their histories vs. Cards. I see the rotation as this Cueto, Latos, Bailey, Leake, Cingrani.
