Henry Co Job is Open

Yes and no, it is raised using the school name in the booster name somewhere, ie. Frankfort High Gridiron Club, but the funds are only used for the football team and are not considered funds in the general athletic fund. So yes the school can take control, but that is an animal they don't want to touch. So saying the school paid for a clinic is not quite true and makes it sound like schools are throwing money into the development of coaches...and we all know that doesn't go on in most places! Haha

Anyway, whatever the new coach decides to run, from an observers standpoint, things were heading in the right direction...wasn't participation up something like 20+ kids from the year before? The new coach will appear to have some good young kids to work with.

I hope the Super takes a long look at how he treats the two schools and decides to follow through with some of the things he told the coaches and school he would do that he refused to follow up on. Perhaps then they can start keeping head coaches. I saw on the KHSAA website they are looking for all kinds of coaches, it appears that it's not just football. The root of this problem seems to grow very deep.

Good Luck at Henry County coach!

:thumb:

I'm sure Coach Engstrand will be sending the check to reimburse the boosters for the Tony Franklin clinic shortly or he may let the Henry County Boosters foot the bill. We will see if he does the right thing or not.

That is a cheap shot for sure, classy really classy. A guy gets a chance to better himself for his family and someone is on here wondering if he will do the right thing????

Chris Engstrand is a man of character, and will enjoy success at Henry Co.

Come on now No way Engstand owes anyone at hills any money, some people forget that coaches have live too.

Let me preface this post:

**I know nothing personally about this coach or situation but it does open a can of worms.**

When a staff attends Tony's clinic they recieve the entire clinic on DVD, teaching tapes, playbook, practice schedules, etc. You can order these materials, but Tony still charges the full price.

Would it only seem fair that those materials stay in the hands of the group that funded them??

Therefore, if a booster club were to pay a large amount (2000.00 in this case) do they have a right to protect their interest and investment and make sure that these coaching resources remain with their program and are available to the new coach and staff?? Or do they go with the old coach??

I am sure that they agreed to purchase this for the use of the coaching staff.

The booster club did indeed agree to send the staff to the clinic under the assumption that the team would be running the offense under the direction of the coach requesting the trip. The school is now in the process of hiring a new coach who will be choosing his own offense and defense, as well as his own staff and it should be no other way. My point is that if he would want to use the materials, that is great and we have spent the money on the kids where it belongs. If not, we have thrown money out the window that should be going for the good of the kids. Kids who have washed cars, sold cookies and discount cards and everything else, not to mention parents who have worked in a bingo hall night after night.

That is a cheap shot for sure, classy really classy. A guy gets a chance to better himself for his family and someone is on here wondering if he will do the right thing????

I am all for any person finding a better situation for him and his family. That may or may not be the case. He told his players and wrote a letter to the parents, telling them that he had issued an ultimatum to the superintendent and got his hand called, forcing him to take the Henry County job. He had coached here One Year and didn't get what he wanted and painted himself into a corner, leaving the team after spring practice, where they thought they were learning a new offense. One that they may or may not get to use. The kids and the parents who had supported the program and given whatever was requested are now holding the bag, both emotionally and financially.

Well if that is what the letter said, I will have to say that is pretty cheesy, if he left only due to a self imposed ultimatum. Why glorify, the fact that hey, I left for a better deal.

This would be a GREAT job for a deer hunting coach. LOL

First, Henry Co. contacted him about the position, as per the newspaper in Henry County. He didn't interview or apply before they went to this clinic you keep referring to.

I also believe Engstrand asked the Super to talk to him and Super never called him. He wanted only what was promised to be done for the program and to discuss certain issues. (none of those issues had to do with him gaining personally) I also believe the Super told him certain things would be done and never followed through. So before you go and run someone into the ground get your info straight. Would you stay some place that told you they would do something and didn't? When you try to resolve those issues with your boss and he never contacts you would you stay? You exhibit half truths, or only what you want people to hear. Didn't the coaches also work with the boosters on every single fundraiser? The coaches and kids, I believe, also sold gold cards that would have paid for their clinic. How about getting all the info out instead of what you want people to percieve since you have all the info.

You are absolutely correct. I have let this get out of hand with some stupid statements that I made from the hurt I felt for the players and apologize to anyone that I have offended. We are all adults and I haven't acted like one today.

Are you serious? I understand that he contacted the super of the Franklin County school system prior to accepting the Henry County job and the super could not find the time to talk about a matter such as "I may resign." The super then says I'll call you at home tonight...no phone call.

Coach E is a loyal man and would do no intentional wrong to the young men at WHHS. I'm sure the day he resigned will haunt him for a long time, but the time and work that goes hand in hand with a football program sometimes needs to be rewarded with support or in this case a simple phone call and a pledge to care.

Coach E goes to a clinic that he feels will benefit the WHHS football team and then gets another job and a guy (angry booster I'm sure) want him to send a check? The content of the clinic surely did not evaporate? I understand the next guy may come in and not use the clinic materials, oh well. Is he supposed to refund every dime spent by boosters that may have benefitted coaches? What about last years (2005) clinics? Coach E may not want or need to use the content from the clinic at his new job.

If you are mad...be mad at the lack of support. Be upset because your son lost a great role model and coach. Coach E could probably round up a few bills of personal money spend on your son...I doubt he'll send you that bill.
