Beam, Maker's, Four Roses are all foreign-owned and have been for a long time. In other words, the outrage ship sailed decades ago and none of us were on it. Woodford is Louisville owned. Woodford Reserved I believe is owned by Brown Forman. Brown Forman has another bourbon but I cannot think of the name. Guru likes Benchmark Bourbon, I cannot think who owns the brand, maybe the same as owns Buffalo Trace??? I believe Pappy is US owned also. Benchmark is a Buffalo Trace product now. One of my new favorites, Eagle Rare is also a BT product.
February 18, 201412 yr Isn't Booker's part of the Beam Small Batch collection with Knob Creek, Basil Hayden, Bakers an maybe another one? I believe you are correct, that Bookers has the strongest proof. I do like Basil quite a lot, but I'm indifferent about Knob Creek. There are some higher-octane specialty batches of Knob Creek they've been selling lately with higher proofs.

I love both Basil and Knob Creek. When I'm back in Nky I love going to Pompilios and getting an after dinner Basil on the rocks .

I believe these large spirits companies are buying up brands to get those products in their distribution channels. When Bill Samuels sold Makers, I believe he did so reluctantly but knew that Makers alone would not be able to reach the markets that the large company who bought them already had a presence in. Not to be picky by Bourbon and Scotch are Whiskies.
February 18, 201412 yr Lone exception. It's still rough as a sipping whiskey — needs some ice/water to cut the proof. 2 cubes and a smooth, caramel finish. It'll kick your butt though. That is one that I HAVE to drink in moderation. Knob Creek is my go to. DEPs here in Ft. Thomas bought a few barrels and had them bottled for the store. They are very good selections. I've liked the 4 750mL bottles that I have gotten.
