coupon 21 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Salmons? Fannin? Vanderhoof? Or someone from outside the program?
RAMCAT77 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I wouldn't mind seeing Vanderhoof make a second go at it, but I don't think that will happen. I think Salmons is still a few years away from becoming a head coach. Lewis is a good candidate, but with his age, I'm not sure it's a good long term solution. I hope that those in charge take the time and select the best candidate for the job. Of course, at this point everything is based on rumors, so who knows.
Ram Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 There's a few big names from outside that I would give strong consideration to. They are interested.
Watusi Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Is it a foregone conclusion that Maynard is gone?

There will be as many rumors regarding TJ's replacement as there were about him going to Russell.
Little Ram Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) Coach Maynard has met with the team at Raceland. He has elected to take on the job at Russell. But the expressions from Coach Maynard says it was not an easy decision. Every senior that played this past year was there, even though they were not initially invited, they were there for their coach. Coach Maynard is a great coach and has chosen the best for his family. Congratulations to Coach Maynard and his family. Next is to find a new head coach for Raceland. Edited February 17, 2014 by Ram

Very good post, comments, I probably a lot of others have heard some possibilities but naming them now would just add to the rumors, hopefully something more definite (applicants) will be mentioned. There's a few big names from outside that I would give strong consideration to. They are interested. :thumb: I have heard the same, one very big name in particular. Thankfully the Raceland football head coaching job is a very good one. With the history, tradition, community interest, fan support, top notch school system I believe that a lot of interest will be shown. Also, with the football talent/athletes in the younger classes at Raceland the cupboard is very far from bare. . Is this a step up? At one time it might have been but I honestly don't think so now. Raceland's football program is every bit as good and/or better than Russell now. T.J. Maynard is a Russell alum, former standout football player at Russell so I feel that the chance to return as head coach was a factor for him. Russell, from what I understand has some very good talent that will be coming up from the jr. high, frosh teams as well so he will have good kids to build with. Should the people (parents, fans, admin.) at Russell leave Maynard alone and let him coach his team then he will do a good job. Edited February 17, 2014 by oldrambler
oldrambler Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 On a personal note, I just wanted to take a minute to express a huge Thank You to Coach T.J. Maynard for the very solid job that he did as an asst./Def. coordinater and then Head Coach at Raceland.

Coming from me, his first and only class he had all the way from freshman to senior years, THANK YOU Coach Maynard for all you did for me as well as the team and the program. He formed a unit of seniors that I am blessed to be a part of. He talked about 'his family' and his actual family today. You did not turn your back on 'your family'. You are only do what is best for your actual family and I believe he made the best choice. Nothing will be held on you for going to Russell. Again, Thank you Coach Maynard for all you have done for me and my family.
Ram Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Is this a step up? Matter of perspective I guess, Raceland holds a five game winning streak over Russell, but Russell is a 2A school and Raceland is a 1A school. I guess it depends on how you define, "step up".

I agree, Coach Maynard did a great job as an Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator and a great job as a Head Coach. I know his decision was not an easy one for many reasons, but I know he made the decision that he thought was best. We were glad to have him for his time at Raceland and I know he enjoyed being with us.

L.R. - these along with other comments / post that you have put on bgp threads should tell anyone that it is class acts as yourself, your teammates as well that are a huge ( and not just body ) factor in Raceland's football program. There is a long line of tradition, players and coaches that have had an input to this proud Raceland program as well. I want to say Thank You, Little Ram, for your contributions to what is the Raceland Ram Football Tradition ! :thumb:
