Matter of perspective I guess, Raceland holds a five game winning streak over Russell, but Russell is a 2A school and Raceland is a 1A school. I guess it depends on how you define, "step up".

Actually I consider it a step down now, just sayin'. Years and years ago maybe would have been a step up.

i believe that you're right, Russell was 3A in the 70's, 2A in part of the 80's,, 90's up until just a while back went to 3A. They have jumped around with both through the years.

I don't necessarily rate the size/ classification as a step up or down. i know that there are 1A programs around the state that i consider far better than some of the larger schools.

L.R. - these along with other comments / post that you have put on bgp threads should tell anyone that it is class acts as yourself' date=' your teammates as well that are a huge ( and not just body ) factor in Raceland's football program. There is a long line of tradition, players and coaches that have had an input to this proud Raceland program as well. Oldrambler, I appreciate the compliments. But the true thank you should go to you and the Rams before you that set the tone and started the Raceland Tradition. With out you, there would not be a tradition to continue.

In some eyes, yes. In others, no. In my eyes, no. However, Russell has more state titles than Raceland, Raceland has beat Russell the last five meetings. I would agree with Oldrambler, recently, it is a step down. Comparing the programs over decades, I would say yes. Regardless, two great programs in the area and state.

They are 2A by size but petitioned to move up to 3A due to travel distance. Under the new alignment I would say Coach Maynard chooses to stay in 2A.

Well Belfry is definitely in the race for a state title every year. I'd stay away from them too! Haha.

We have qualified men on staff, a more than qualified coach that hasn't been coaching varsity, just middle school, and in my opinion is brilliant. I am sure outsiders will look at this job as well. The Rams will be fine. Coach Maynard is a good friend and I wish him well but Raceland will continue to plug along. It just stings a little right now.

:thumb: I feel the same and agree on Raceland will be fine......Raceland has been blessed with very good football coaches through the years....From when i was a young kid in the late 60's there was coach Conley - Larry Heck, Roger Snyder in the 70's, Bill Tom Ross in the 80's, early 90's - Randy Vanderhoof - 90's- 2000's to T.J. Maynard until this time. Each coach put their own input, advancements to the program.

i guess what i am saying is that although i do wish that Coach Maynard had remained that the Raceland Football Tradition started long ago, was here before Coach Maynard and will be here long after......

Thanks, I'm sure it will be fun. We really haven't had a coach search since Bill Tom Ross took the job in '84, I believe it was. After Coach Ross left Vanderhoof was in waiting, after Vanderhoof stepped down, Maynard was in waiting. This may be the first REAL coaching search since '84.

Russell will be 3A in the new alignment (per the KHSAA released numbers). Their district is up in the air with West Carter moving to 2A and East Carter and Mason moving to 4A.
