Would you be in favor of 2 Halves versus 4 Quarters?

Leave the quarters but I would love to see a shot clock.

I've always wanted eight 4-minute quarters. Leaves more time for bathroom and concession breaks.

Also all games should be played under "make it, take it" rules.

Seriously though, I don't see why we need to change anything, except maybe make some kind of effort toward more consistent officiating. And even that gets overblown sometimes. As long as there has been basketball there have been good refs and bad refs. I don't really see that changing.

I just can't see any reason for any drastic changes to the game.

I disagree.. Why an asterisk?? Yeah it would impact stats but so did the three point line when it was put in the game.. Are all those scoring records after the three point line was added asterisked? Its an (improvement to the game) just like improvements in the past. IMHO

I see your point. Still, it just seems to me that adding an extra 4 minutes to games would definitely alter statistics such as scoring averages. It would be similar to adding an extra inning to baseball games. They still talk about how Babe Ruth hit his 60 home runs in one season in a 154 games schedule and his 714 career homers in less games played than Maris, Aaron, and the steroid gang whose names deserve no mention here.

Its very possible that could be the case. I dont think it would be a huge difference with those two minutes added to each half. The team that is trying to stall the game is going to hold the ball as long as possile during those last two minutes of the halves like any other game. Would not matter if they added 2 miutes or 10 minutes the last two will always be that way. the seniero for the last two miutes of any half seem to play out like that if one team is under maned or less talented not as big ETC.

I think a shot clock would be a better addition than halves (16 or 18 minutes). Eliminates the stall ball tatic. Two ways it works out if you are a team that stalls the ball

A. Your team is very displined and have good ball handlers and you get the shot you want in which case you could also do this offense in a shot clock atmosphere or

B. Your team is not very dsplined and dose not handle the ball well and two or three passes into your offensive set the pass is stolen and eithier a run out for the other team or the other team tries its hand at stall ball trying to get the last shot.

Shot clock eliminates all this till you get in the last seconds of a game. I suggest a 45 sec. shot clock. At the most any can stall the ball is 45 sec. And those teams that can handle the ball well that like to run long sets to stall will adapt the offensive scheme to adapt to this. Resulting in still low scoring affairs, but still more exciting games especially if the games go down to the wire. Teams can design plays that are based around the shot clock and would add another exciting element to the game.. Again this is soley my opnion just like my view on classifing high school basketball. But i dont feel like im alone in this theory on eithier front. Maybe siding with the minority on both views but they are valid points.

I like the 2 18 minute halves. It eliminates 2 extra stoppages of the game so the games would be completed basically in the same amount of time. It eliminates the holding of the ball at the end of quarters for a back to back possession scenario at the start of the next quarter. It gives the kids 4 more minutes of playing time. This could potentially force coaches to develop more of a bench, due to foul trouble or just plain fatigue. Halves have been used in a lot of AAU type events and I always liked the format.

I could live with two halves. They play two halves on every other level, why not HS?

You're right!

I'm just going to say periods from now on. Saying eighths just wouldn't sound right. :lol2:
