KY: Are you sure you want a Shot Clock?

Numbers suggest high school basketball shot clock doesn't necessarily mean more scoring

In fact, scoring averages are actually higher in states that do not use a shot clock (104.2 combined points per game) than the seven states with a shot clock (101.4 combined points per game).

The top nine states in terms of highest combined per game average all play without a shot clock. North Dakota is the highest-scoring timed-possession state at No. 10 on the list.

Ballard of Louisville, Ky., led this season by

senior point guard Quentin Snider, is one of the

highest scoring teams in the country at over 82

points per game.

I don't think anyone purported that scoring would go up, it would just limit the teams going into a stall with several minutes to go in the game.

THIS is why a shot clock would be good, let's have action and not watch a team shoot ft's for 4-5 minutes!

I don't necessarily want a shot clock...if teams don't want the other team to play stall ball, don't let them have a lead late in the fourth quarter.

No shot clock. No. No. No. There's a reason why I love HS basketball - it's NOT the NBA.

I like the way it is with no shotclock. However, it could be a cool thing for players if maybe a few games a year were played with a shotclock.

Maybe like championship of some tourneys (not the district, region or state ones obviously). But say the championship of King of the Bluegrass (any invitational really) uses a shot clock. Good preview of college ball for some of the players.

As I've said in other threads, I am indifferent. I don't think thegame would be tarnished either way.
