Matt Jones Sued for Copyright Infringement...

How does KSR make money from the photos that they have shared on their site? Is it a pay site?

Does KSR post any statements saying that all photos are taken by their staff?

I agree that everyone deserves credit for their work and if KSR stole their work that is wrong. If it was re-posted from social media I don't see where the issue is.

If you take cool pictures and post them on your Facebook, then I take them and sell them to some company, would that make you mad?

Is that what happened or did someone just share photos that were out there on the web already...has Jones or KSR made money from this? Is KSR a pay site?

They obviously make money off the site somehow... Not sure of the particulars. If you share someone else's pictures on your site, you state where they came from and give credit. KSR didn't, and didn't remove them when given the opportunity.

I'm sure they do from advertisers, is that any different than when photos get put up on this site that we haven't paid for?

I'm not defending KSR or Jones just seems like if they are re-posting photos taken by others like every fan site in the country does...

Is it only copyright infringement if you make money off of it? If Matt Jones has a personal blog and uses the images and doesn't charge anyone anything, is he in trouble?

Same question, look at everyone's avatars, I am pretty sure most people did not create them or photograph them. They were probably lifted from google image or some other website.

Im not under the assumption that you took the picture you're using...

Buddy and I had a discussion about this topic. He wanted to get paid for me using his selfie as my avatar. I laid out the costs of bubble and gourmet dog treats and he backed off.

The other problem is where did Jones pull the pictures. When photographers post pictures on some social media sites they lose some of their rights. (Twitter,Facebook etc.)

That doesn't appear to be the case for the pictures in question....

That's my point, I am afraid I may get sued by Hell frozen over photographer.

Avatars are a bad example I think. Like I know UKMF isn't Tom Brady, as much as he wishes... :D

Copyright laws give the owner of the copyrighted work several rights, most namely the right to reproduce and distribute copies of their works.

IMO, the facts that KSR makes money and the copyrighted pictures are used on a site that makes money will cripple Jones.

Unless it's the actual picture you will be good. Pretty sure all of ours are thumbnails.
