Doesn't everyone play JV games on Saturday?

No. It seems to be primarily a Northern Kentucky thing. I know in our area and beyond most schools play JV on Mondays and Freshman on Thursday.

Anybody know about the 6A rotating regions if the super district is broken up? Will that continue or will it be like it was and like it still is for every other class?

Maybe you can get with your AD...unless you all are sworn to secrecy....and confirm the KHSAA plan.

St. Matthews Catholic tends to be very close-mouthed.....the athletic department changes will offer a different dynamic very soon.

 

I have not been told anything related to realignment from anyone at Ballard or anywhere else (our approach is we play who they put in our district so rumors of things like this don't really matter to us).

 

But I think talk of this is still a little premature. I've been told the rationale for putting those 4 teams in the same district was due to the similarities they all possess on one thing: Male, Manual, X, and T are the only 6A schools in the state that has an unlimited draw from all of Jefferson County (the rest of us have a limited 'resides area' from which our students come).

 

There is nothing going on with JCPS to change that set-up that I know of, so someone told me until that changed, the 'super-district' likely wouldn't either.

My understanding is there won't be any alignment plans released until the KHSAA has a full list of what teams want to play up in class.

Not in Jefferson County, The JCPS prefers to play JV on Mondays and Frosh on Thursdays.Trinity plays many Saturday JV and freshmen games due to nature of varsity schedule playing so many out-of-town teams.

So who will be in what conference? Oldham, Ballard, Eastern, J-town, Trinity in one region

St X, Male, Manual, Seneca, PRP? What does everyone think?

You would still have Southern and Butler, etc to place wouldn't you? I can't wait to find out but as Ballard had said I am sure the thought may be to keep teams with similar assets tangled up together.

Southern drops to 5A. Here's a plus for Trinity if it breaks up and they are no longer in a district with X. Neither of those schools will ever contemplate not playing each other so that means a non-district game against a KY school.

Why don't schools in Ky play Frosh and JV games on the same night? If the freshmen are home then the JV are away. It makes it so much easier for the coaches and I absolutely hate playing games on Monday. The kids don't get the usual 2-3 days rest from games and we experience more injuries because of it.

1) Head coach would have to watch EITHER Frosh or JV (personally, I feel I should see every game our program plays)

 

2) Many kids who play JV have some varsity responsibility (for us, usually just Special Teams, but occasionally they're a varsity back-up) so if both games are on Thursday--like current Frosh games--there'd be ONE day for them to recover. If a varsity starter gets injured, the JV kid who played last night or Tuesday in a JV game now has to play again in a varsity game with little recovery. I can control contact in practice; can't in a JV game.

 

3) The solution to this is to play both lower level GAMES ON SATURDAY. But that would require school administrators, officials, etc. to be willing to do this on what they consider a 'day off' (or for officials around Louisville, a day where many of them work Youth League games or College games). Doubt you'll get that going.

1. I can respect that but I also like that our head coach goes with the JV and lets us do our thing. I've seen some head coaches stand next to the freshmen coaches and tell them what play to run every down.

 

2. We have a few JV kids who play on special teams but anyone on our 2 deep doesn't get to play JV.

 

3. All of our Junior League games are played on Saturdays. 6th grade starts at 1 pm, 7th grade starts at 4 pm, and 8th grade starts at 7 pm (usually, some teams starter earlier). Plus the little ones who play all day at another field.

 

I should say that schools in our region have anywhere from 1900 to 2800 students so depth from JV kids is not as much of a problem with us. And we have 5 freshmen coaches and 9 varsity coaches so we can afford to split the games on Thursday nights.
