The biggest thing that I really don't like in all of this is that the 14th region will now have 11-12 schools in their All A while other regions only have 6 or so. That doesn't seem right to have one regional winner having to play 3 - 4 games to get to Richmond and another only having to play 2

I don't like how 2A schools can get eligible for the all a. I don't understand how a 2A school in football can be 1A in basketball.

Lightning, I think in football they count grades 9-12, in the All "A" they only count 10-12, but not positive on this.

I understand the frustration that some are expressing. But here in the mountains we must accept we have decling population and lower birthrates than historically happened in the rural areas. WE CAN COMPETE THOUGH JUST FIGHT HARDER REMEMBER CARR CREEK. We are a proud people and I know we will rise to the challenge. I love the mountains and thier people. They are the strongest

While other states have equity in how they compete with their high schools with class sizing (all other 49 states class size) Ky. does not.

If Knott Central has 650 total population then their freshman class would have to have 226 kids to have them eligible for the way the all a is set up now(which is allows for 2A schools to get in) To me, a school with 226 or more freshmans should not be in the all a tournament.

But here in the mountains, we just hump up and say we are proud and can't do anything about it.

That is why I feel all of the TRUE all A Schools should withdraw from the tournament if knott leslie breathitt or estill either one get in. Touchstone energy can have a All AA state tournament if they wish......Someone else could sponsor a true all A tournament for what it is designed for.

I agree. All current members should not participate and then what would be the arguement that this is for the small schools. This tournament was designed for the small schools. They have almost destroyed it. People will eventually lose interest if they do not change something. Touchstone should just sponsor the warmup state tournament. Everybody is almost in it anyway.

I love the Sweet 16, but if the bigger schools continue to try and get in the all a maybe we should go to a class system. Either that or just drop the all a and let Touchstone Energy host tournament for everyone.

Leslie actually almost got in 2 years ago. They missed out by just a few numbers. I think the state All A does their new enrollment count every two years. So these schools are in at least for the next two years.

I am stunned that a can do attitude is what has put the mountains twenty years behind everyone else. I disagree!!! It is that whiney and cheesey attitude that holds people back, While I may agree with the class system 100%. Whinning will not accomplish nothing. If you don't want to play a little stiffer competition then that is your choice. But do tell me which of the 14th region schools mentioned is tougher than University Heights or Owensboro Cath. We won the region this year and went to Richmond and played a little school named Bishop Brossert and the dismantled us. Why, not because of thier student body size, but because they played sensational basketball. If itwas easy everybody would do it. I prefer the challenge. I believe we are ranked 2nd or 3 rd in the 14 th regional rankings for all the schools in the region and our goal is to win the region. Whether we do or not will be determined by our play on the floor. Lets go to a class system but until then COWBOY UP.

I think its ridiculus to let a 2A football school play in the All A basketball tourney.

Why exactly does the All "A" only count 10-12. According to them freshman do not count toward the # & many of these teams play freshman on their varsity teams. They do not count as students but do count as players?? Wouldnt it make sense to count 9-12?? High school varsity basketball stats only count for 9-12 (not 10-12), why not go by this standard?? Size of a freshman class should not matter unless it is so big to put them over the total ##.

They said they had the numbers to touchstone energy, but when it came to reporting their attendance to the state dept. for $$$ they somehow had more kids than they reported for the all a enrollment.

 

Every region has this problem....

Jackson Co. got in as a bigger school and dominated the 13th for years...the 14th had whitesburg who was a 2a school who won it every year they were in it.

The 16th had West Carter

Monroe co. is another example.....2A and private schools are dominating the all A tournament.....plain and simple....All A Schools are going to have to stand up and boycott the tournament and create their own.....because we are years behind the rest of the states when it comes to class sizing.. ....heck maybe lee and wolfe county could get into the three rivers conference tournament with jackson and riverside and feel great about dominating that one.
