Why exactly does the All "A" only count 10-12. According to them freshman do not count toward the # & many of these teams play freshman on their varsity teams. They do not count as students but do count as players?? Wouldnt it make sense to count 9-12?? High school varsity basketball stats only count for 9-12 (not 10-12), why not go by this standard?? Size of a freshman class should not matter unless it is so big to put them over the total ##.

I am stunned that a can do attitude is what has put the mountains twenty years behind everyone else. I disagree!!! It is that whiney and cheesey attitude that holds people back, While I may agree with the class system 100%. Whinning will not accomplish nothing. If you don't want to play a little stiffer competition then that is your choice. But do tell me which of the 14th region schools mentioned is tougher than University Heights or Owensboro Cath. We won the region this year and went to Richmond and played a little school named Bishop Brossert and the dismantled us. Why, not because of thier student body size, but because they played sensational basketball. If itwas easy everybody would do it. I prefer the challenge. I believe we are ranked 2nd or 3 rd in the 14 th regional rankings for all the schools in the region and our goal is to win the region. Whether we do or not will be determined by our play on the floor. Lets go to a class system but until then COWBOY UP.

 

Lee County has one good year in the last 10 and you guys suddenly become genuises.

How about Riverside.... They can cowboy up all they want and it isn't going to do them any good....their kids will feel like losers....No way they will EVER be able to compete with perry or letcher.

I agree with the idea that we need to go to a class system and we need to quit whining and do something about it.

The fact of the matter is the bigger the school, the bigger their advantage....sure every now and then the small school can sneak up and have a good year....but by the time you do...you have been beaten by the bigger schools in your area so much that it is a mental block and you are already at a disadvantage come tournament time.....you in lee co. will see what i mean by this in the regional tournament....I know you will compete and will do everything you can to win, but losing to these teams for so many years is hard to overcome at tournament time.

You are correct.....the All A needs to count the 9th graders in their count for all a schools.....They count enrollment in grades 10-12...this allows for manipulaton from bigger schools to get into the all A.

Even if the All "A" counted 9th graders it was still be classified different than football is.

Cmon if the All A was restricted to 300 students 9-12 Riverside still couldn't compete. Maybe Piverside isn't as interseted i nbasketball as a wholesome christain education. Hazard, Owsley and Lee have won the most recent 14th region titles. They are 3 of the smaller schools in the region. Lee had a total of 50 Seniors last year and we are bigger than Owsley. We are working on maintaining that genuis level. You are the first person in my life to call me a genuis

In a true class system....riverside would be in a class competing against schools with 175 students or less that are not private.....they would have some type of hope for their athletic program then...now, why would they even try?

Give us your idea of a class breakdown. how many classes. It is needed to be fair I do agree. I think 5 classes would work

Let me try this one. Just a starting point. Open to suggestions

1A= 0-200

2A= 201-500

3A= 501-800

4A= 801-1100

5A= 1101-

Should be the same for football and basketball

9th grade thru 12 th for toal enrollment

5 classes

A 175 and under

AA 176 to 476

AAA 474 to 776

AAAA 776 to 1076

AAAAA1076 and over

 

and of course a private class..let them decide how they do it.

This is how important class sizing is...think of breathitt co. they has lost in 3A football for years....they drop ONE CLASS to 2A and have several state championships and community pride in their football. Their student athletes have been provided outstanding opportunities and memories.

 

As educators we should be about providing as many opportunities to our students as possible. Why not have 5 state champions with so many more students participating in state tournaments. Instead we are expecting our students from our smaller schools to compete with the big schools and when they fail.....they feel like they aren't as good or they feel unsuccessful in their athletic adventures...when the deck is stacked against them to begin with. This is Ky. and basketball is basketball...changing the state tourney will only enhance it. There are older people who have went to the state tourney for years as a social event who fear the change.

It is time we get in line with the 49 other states...are the 49 other states wrong and we are right...or is ky. years behind.....i know the answer.
