The biggest reason I suspect Adair County moves west is they are in central time whereas Casey is in eastern time. The KHSAA has seemingly made an effort to avoid time zone issues in the past (although obviously some cases are unavoidable).

 

 

 

District two has two teams in Elizabethtown and Larue County that have traditionally been pretty good. E-town has been down for a while, although they seem to be getting better. And Larue was really solid the last few years before injuries derailed last season.

As for that district... I guess it is easy to get skewed when you look at every district featuring a program that has won mutiple state titles.. some including two teams with multiple titles.

The only issues I see with the above:

 

- Casey County borders Boyle County and Adair County but is in the district with neither

- Pendleton being on an island forces a 4 team district as Morgan and Lawrence simply would be stretching too far

- The three team pod in SEKY of McCreary, Bell, and Corbin creates issues as it either has to draw a team from South Central KY like Casey County or pull teams from far EKY like Breathitt or Knott Central

- A District of Boyle, Garrard, Casey, Adair, and Jackson looks mighty enticing Geographically... as does a 4 team district of Henry, LexCath, Western Hills, and Pendleton....but being centrally located it makes it too tough to work out on the geography on both the East and West

- No offense..but District 2 would arguably one of the worst districts in the State of Kentucky regardless of class.

Don't let E-town's 2011 and 2012 seasons fool you. They made great strides last year improving to 6-5 and their skilled players were all sophomores. They will be even better this year, and in 2015 hide and watch if they aren't a serious contender to come out of the west. LOADED. 10-12 years ago they were making a run to stake claim as 2A's best which included an '03 AA State Runner Up finish that had 3 future SEC stars on its team. In 2008, they were Region Runners Up, too.

 

GCHS mentioned LaRue, but they are always a solid ball club. Like any rural schools, they have their top and bottom end runs. As he said, injuries killed them this year as did their extreme youth (which to compound things, many of their injuries came to their extremely young kids). Truth be told, I could see LaRue County mirroring the same two year down turn that their rivals up the road (E-town) had to go through. Larue dogwhipped Corbin in 2012 in the playoffs, and had Bell County on the ropes at Log Mountain.

 

Adair County has had three of the better years in their programs history under the direction of Travis Gay. While far from being any kind of real contender, their program is on the uptick. Ask John Petett at Monroe County & Kyle Pierce at Edmonson County the turn around that has happened at that program.

 

Edmonson County is one very similar to LaRue. Edmonson has had two sub par years these last two years, but from 2005-2011, they had very respectable years. They were at worst .500, and at their best with Region Final appearances in 2008 and an 11-1 year in 2011, with a couple other 2nd round 7-8 win seasons along the way.

 

Hart County isn't a world beater either, but they are probably right at .500 the last 5-6 years.

 

Don't take this post the wrong way. I'm not sitting here defending this district to be the Super District, nor close; I'm definitely not trying to make it's something it's not. However, one thing it also isn't is the worst class (nor close) in the state regardless of class.

 

...fact is, you have above average, to below average programs in that district; which quite honestly, is the vast majority of our Kentucky High School Football make up across the board.

That last point you made is very fair and accurate.

 

E-town, much like Somerset, has been a bridesmaid a few times in their schools history, with several other Region and Semi Final appearances.

 

LaRue has one semi appearance in it's schools history, and a 2-3 Region Final appearances.

If not for a Derek Homer lead '96 team, Edmonson County is playing Breathitt County in the 2A final (and, it was still a very close game the best I can remember).

Fort Knox beat Edmonson 35-13 in the '96 regional final. That Edmonson team was 10-3 on the season and had actually finished runner-up to Owensboro Catholic in the district, only to beat them in overtime in the regional final.

Ok, so it was close for a little bit. lol It actually was a very good game for a large part of it. Ole' Ricky had a bunch of average kids rolling there for a few years.

It still amazes me just how stacked this class is. What is even crazier is the number of programs whoa re about to enter this realignment with a definite "up" surge in talent or general improvement.

 

Belfry will be as strong, if not stronger, than they have ever been over the next 4 years and may have the deepest run of talent the school has ever seen.

 

Boyle is always good but now they are about to return Chuck Smith who made them a truly elite program regardless of class his first go around.

 

Tilghman has a new coach who may take them to new levels.

 

Russell has had a down talent pool the past 4 or 5 years but have a new coach and appear to have the young talent to return them to a state contender.

 

Bell County will be returning to form it appears.

 

Caldwell County's program has seemingly taken another step...will be interesting to see how they fare without Sindelair.

 

Bardstown appears to be on the upward climb

 

Central always has talent but after last season and what appears to be a reloading year in 2014 you know they will be returning to form in 2015.

^^ I agree. Bardstown is always loaded. Year in, year out, they are a 9, 10, 11 win team.

 

Caldwell County will be solid. They'll lose Sindelar, but they have a loaded sophomore, junior to be class that will be just fine. As a matter of fact, Caldwell is solid all the way through their MS classes. I'm pretty sure the only teams to knock them off the last two years in their WKY conference is Mayfield.

 

Ft. Campbell is Ft. Campbell. Talent all over the place.

 

Union County has a solid tradition and always has several athletes.

 

Trigg County the same way.

 

I think it's pretty well thought that PT will be their district champ, and the 2nd-4th place finish will be a street fight.

 

The 3 and 4 seeds in that district will be the toughest 3 and 4 seeds in the state, IMO. (in 3A that is)

3A is going to be tougher than 4A as it stands right now.

 

A move to 4A by either would be taking the easiest path to the Finals... especially with Highlands and CovCath gone. In 4A you have maybe 5 programs currently who have the ability to compete for a Title Year In and Year Out... 3A has 9 or 10

From my understanding Boyle was looking forward to the 3A. The number of player that have came out to play has dropped over the last few years. Lasst year was the lowest I have seen them back before Chuck was there. I think it was 36 Players last year.
