From what I was told by a teacher and coach at the school, a site base council meeting was held last Thursday to decide the new coach. The announcement should made early this week.

 

Well, that's wrong bc they just interviewed Thursday night. The last interview didn't end until around 10.

That is in line with some of what I have heard, hadn't heard Graham's name before...but the other two I'd heard were on the short list so to speak.

Only way french turns it down is if they don't give him spots in the school and/or in school weight program. If they hire a middle school coach...look out, they thought the Stephens situation was bad.

MS Coach is a pretty good coach, not sure if he's ready for this level yet or not. But he is a good coach and will put in the time, something that was lacking with last coach.

He may be, but the perception will be that the PC connection is what got him the job, just like was with the Casey Co connection. It really doesn't matter to me honestly, as I have nothing to do with SWPC but I have several friends connected so..

Never understood the negative stigma around MS coaches... I guess there is a belief that MS guys don't have as good a knowledge-base. That may be true for assistants, as it is hard to find quality guys who are willing to coach for no pay, but I have known A LOT of MS HCs who knew as much or more than most of the HS assistants I have known.

 

Plus, a MS HC has the experience of actually running a program, from an administrative standpoint, albeit on a smaller scale - something most coordinators haven't done. Dealing with POs, accident reports, evaluations, boosters, parents, etc. Those are not insignificant parts of a HS HC's job. In fact, I would argue that more HS HC's fail because of deficiencies of administrative skills than on the field issues.

 

The only way I would see a MS HC as being at a clear disadvantage to a HS OC/DC is that they might not have a network to build a great staff, but that is a case-by-case issue.

 

To me, seems like a quality MS HC would warrant at least as much of a look as a OC/DC.

 

That said, if you have a chance at 1) Larry French or 2) Ray Graham, and you hire a MS, instead, you are idiots. JMHO.

GC, I've been told the same thing. There is no telling with the "group" running SWP. As my buddies have so elegantly put it.
