Speaking of topics related to the brain, did anyone see 60 Minutues last night? They were having a follow up report from an item they covered a couple of years ago regarding a small minority of people who have the uncanny ability to remember every day of their lives, exact dates, what day of week the date was on, what they wore, total recall on details.

Mary Lou Henner from Taxi happened to be one of the bunch, and last night they revisited the topic where in the mean time they found others as well as a couple of young lads who can do the same, along with a discussion with a researcher in the field of the brain that was exposing findings in these peoples' brains, that through scanning, it was found that there were certain differences.

 

Personally, I cannot remember stuff to such great capacity as the folks on 60 minutes, and as I age I can see a significant difference in my remembering.

 

I'm not always sure if it's because I'm really forgetting, or if certain subject matter means less to me now, somehow making me nudge it from my brain or re-categorize it as useless information, or somehow pretty much purge it all the way out.

 

I used to have instant recall when it came to things like band names, or song titles, and more and more common band names, or certain vocalists' names sometimes escape me. That's drives me nuts because I used to be the music whiz.

 

With that said, I've been known to blow people's minds with strange details when remembering things such as what we ordered at a certain restaurant perhaps 20 years ago, or a number of things that I can remember from before I was even 2 years old.

 

I remember being held by a parent at a specific church when I was probably about 18 months old, and have a clear memory of what the center alter looked like and where in the church we sat. I even remember being in our home getting ready to go there, and my parents discussing which church we were going to as there were many in our neighborhood.

 

As I got older I discovered that this church was closed and torn down when I was 2. In seeing pictures of the church in recent years, the alter looked exactly as I remembered. I remember walking with two of my older sisters to see the church and school being prepared for demolition and some vandals had already busted out stained glass windows.

 

I also remember seeing my dad vote at the school (that was also torn down) associated with the church, and have a vivid memory of my mother holding my hand while I saw my Dad disappear behind a thick wool-ish, sorta ugly greyish, tannish somewhat flannel-ish print curtain in a booth, and could then only see his black shoes and the bottom of his pants, then I got free from Mom and tried to crawl under the curtain, but was stopped from doing so because it was a no-no.

 

I was the youngest of 6, so I've always contended that compared to an only child, I had tons of stimulus around me from day one, and that with tons more input than the only child, that perhaps some was bound to stick in the memory banks.

 

I've noticed even more over the last 5 years that certain smells, weather, cloud formations, temperature etc... will trigger in me memories from childhood that hadn't crossed my mind in a very very long time. Perhaps not even ever since whatever I'm remembering happened, even if it was about 40 years ago. I'm not always sure why exactly I'll have recall of such insignificant memories, but it's been happening more and more with me lately.

 

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone out there has the type of memory discussed on 60 minutes, and if not, anything you'd like to add regarding your memory or memory in general.

Bball it was actually easy. I just cut and pasted your post in office word and did a replace all selecting certain letters like e and replace with 3 etc. Then cut and pasted the post back in here. No translator needed.

About an hour and a half ago a coworker and I were discussing my recall. I have heard from a lot of people at how amazed they are at things I am able to remember about conversations or things that transpired. However, I am terrible at noticing things. If you flashed an image on my screen and took it away I couldn't tell you a thing about it. I can't tell you what type of shirt some guy was wearing. I couldn't tell you what color eyes people have, etc.
