Resolutions?

Featured Replies

So, in the distant past, I would set resolutions and fail miserably. In the near past, I just quit making resolutions.

I stumbled across 2 challenges this last weekend on Pinterest, so I've decided to participate. One is the 52 Week Money challenge. The other is a 31 Day Spending Challenge.

I am so excited about both, which is unusual for me when I think about "challenges". And honestly, I think I'm excited about them because in my mind I can approach these like I do at work when faced with a challenge.

As I've worked out the plans for achieving these challenges, I've realized some of the tangent benefits could be achieving some of the more traditional resolutions I've tried to do with no success ( eg: fitness goals).

Anyone making resolutions this year?

Good Luck to you, Rockmom!

But you can't just "name drop' some challenges without the details. :)

These past few months I have focused on the negative like it's my job. So I'm quitting that job and someone else can have it. :)

I resolve to choose the positive and ignore the negative.

Let me start by saying that for over a year now, I have existed in a state of deep sadness...not depression, but dealing with 7 deaths (3 friends, my father, my uncle, my brother in law and my beloved LuckyDog). Even before that, I had been dealing with some "loss of purpose" feelings as my children began their own lives and didn't need me. And I need to be needed. :lol2:

So, one thing I forgot on my original list is that I am depositing a slip of paper each day into a box. It will state 1 good thing that happened that day. At the end of the year I will read them.

The 52 week money challenge is that in week 1 you deposit $1, week 2 $2, and so on. At the end of the year you have almost $1400 in your jar.

The spending challenge is to spend ONLY for necessities and bills in January.

I will begin again...

I'm making Beautiful Day my song to listen too every day, along with The Rising.

To my sister from another mister from your brother from another mother...

Wow, RM, I had no idea you had suffered that much loss this year. I certainly hope your 2014 brings you much happiness and no personal tragedy.

I love the slip of paper each day idea. That sounds very intriguing to me.

I have seen that money challenge and it made me wonder if it would be easier to just deposit $27 per week. The same amount each week seems like it would be easier to budget for and commit to. I guess the idea with the increasing amount is that it is easy in the beginning with only a few dollars, but in the latter part of the year, when the amount is in the $40's and $50's it might get too hard.

Either way, good luck with it and keep us posted on how it is going.

My resolutions:

#1. Finish my book that I've been writing for the past few years.

#2. Get my 'Stuff' organized.

#3. Play golf more.

#4. Spend more time with friends.

#5. Learn to say no & not feel guilty about it.

De-junk my life by putting a lot of stuff on ebay.

I'm with you, Watusi. On paper it sounds great, but as they year goes on and especially as we approach Christmas of 2014, it will become much harder to find $50 a week versus $27 a week.

I might just have to work it out backward, so that the last week of December I only have to put away $1. :lol2:

And then have more cash, too.

I will say that I'm getting better at this.

(Except when it comes to the kids.)
