With the consolidation of Lone Oak, Reidland, and Heath High Schools, all softball powerhouses in the past couple of years, how good do you believe the Mustangs will be? Will they mesh? Team chemistry could be an issue with so many good players. They also have 3 returning top quality starting pitchers and only 1 pitcher's circle.

They return over 20 starters from all 3 teams and all 3 were very good. They have 30+ varsity players coming back. Some that played varsity last year will not even make the team.

 

Their JV would beat a lot of Varsity teams.

Sounds like a nice situation to be in if the coach can pull them together and keep drama to a minimum. That can be easier said than done when you have that much talent coming together as one. Hopefully they can work that out.

 

Also, I think depth in softball is not as important as it is in other sports. Meaning if Team A has 30 real good players and a good pitcher(s) and Team B has 8 good players and a good pitcher...in a 1 game scenario, both teams have the same chances (or very close to the same) of winning. You can only put 9 girls on the field. Outside of a relief pitcher situation or the ability to use a pinch hitter or runner, depth really doesn't effect softball like if does other sports. If the pitcher from Team B is on and the postion players can play to their ability, depth goes out the door IMO.

 

But depth can play into longevity and consistancy and thats where I would see McCracken having an advantage over time.

It would be nice to have that problem.

Sounds to me like some girls could get some playing time if they transferred to a nice northern Kentucky Catholic school, especially if they seem a little trapped there and need some freedom.

got to think chapman from lone oak will be the star in the circle...she was tough as nails for a freshman last year....talked to a few of my softball friends that are parents out there, and they all said they'll be some transfers over time, not so much over this first couple years, but other schools in the area like tilghman, marshall county, ballard memorial may see some of the younger ones who may be disenchanted....this consolidation has certainly been the topic on everyone's mind this off season....i'll get to see them early in the season at the big e'town tourney....still can only have 9 girls on the dirt at once, so I'd say the heath girls may have the toughest path to the field, with the coach coming from reidland and lone oak having a great history....i say livingston central stuns them in the first week of the season!!

Chapman the Sophomore stud just committed to Louisiana Tech.

good for her...she'll be playing for a fellow Kentuckian...hope she does well.

With there being so many returning starters and only so many spots on the team, will any of these girls end up at Tilghman or St. Mary or any other neighboring county schools?
