I said that when he first got here the attitude changes that were needed were way overdue and Marvin changed the attitude which was a huge boost and I give credit to Marvin for that. that was over 10 years ago. When will he start winning? I'm talking post season. That is afterall what matters in the end.

He has the same amount of playoff wins than every single coach has since 1991 which is zero. So before people ordain Marvin as Saint Marvin for saving the franchise, what really has he saved?

 

He has more non winning seasons than winning season. He has been coaching this team for 11 years and is barely above .500 and he has zero playoff wins.

I don't disagree that it's time to take the next coaching step. I just recognize that Marvin did do a great job in pulling the Bengals up from where they were. The problem is I don't know if anyone will be successful with the ownership. Marvin is at a 50% win clip. Take him out and the rest of the history of the Bengals is just over 40%. Hopefully there is an attitude change going on at the top. If so, a better coach does have a chance at success.

Marvin is soft so the players are soft. Some teams after getting their punter blindsided would get even. Not the Bengals, just let it go.

Last night he and Gruden were as bad as they have ever been and that's hard to do b/c they have been really bad before.

The defense got walked over. The special teams handed two scores to the Steelers. Let's not get stuck in our programmed rants. The defense stunk it up big time last night. Zimmer rushing two players on that one TD may have been the worst call by a defensive co-ordinator I have ever seen. And it isn't the first horrible call by Zimmer this year. That was just a complete debacle last night.

 

I will go to one of my "programmed rants" now - our offensive line stinks. Any time they play a good defense they get abused. That is at least half the reason why Dalton does not play as well against the top shelf opponents. I saw in the paper that Collinsworth said the Bengals offensive line was one of the better ones in the NFL. Based on what I saw last night, they aren't nearly as good as the Steelers make shift offensive line.

His refusal to commit to the ground game is mind-boggling. The only time they ran the ball last night on their first 2-3 drives was on 3rd and 1's. Pittsburgh DBs have given up a ton of big plays. The Bengals have 2-3 guys that can run the downfield route, and they waited until 2-3 minutes left in the 4th quarter to even attempt a pass downfield???

You are right and I made a comment in the game thread last night to why they haven't tried to go dfown field all game up to that point. the 1 yard passes get really old after awhile especially when they result most of the time in 1 yard gains

Not only that, but when you factor in that Dalton tends to get balls batted down, the Steelers play a very blitz/pass rush happy defense, those short 1 yard passes are even dumber. All it's doing is leading to 4-5 balls batted at the line.

Please don't start your old making things up stuff again. Where did anyone say they had the best? I was just pointing out your typical overreaction throughout this whole year to everything. Its been the worst owner in football, and how they didn't get better in the off season like the Ravens did. Its been its the worst secondary in the NFL was a big rant of yours early in the year. We have heard the whole Andy Dalton is the worst QB in the NFL a few times this year. Now its the whole Marvin Lewis is the worst coach in the NFL. Just because someone is not good/great, does not mean they are the worst in the NFL. Typical overreaction stuff in a negative way for you. Marvin Lewis is exactly what his record is, an average Head Coach, not the worst. Andy Dalton is probably a slightly better than average QB if that, not the worst. The secondary has proven even with injuries they are an average secondary as compared to the rest of the league, not worst.

 

However your typical overreactions lead to well this or that is the worst in the NFL. As they said on ESPN, COME ON MAN!!!

You can't say that here in these parts, because as long as it ends in a loss people complain. If the Bengals come out and through more deep balls and they get picked or look terrible like most of his deep passes. People would be saying why are they throwing deep passes on a windy night, when their QB struggles with the deep pass in good conditions. When they were throwing deep more earlier in the year, it was the Bengals are not playing to Dalton's strengths of the short quick timing throws. Basically if it does not work, then that person is an idiot, sucks, needs to be gone, etc. Its not just a Bengals thing, its a Cincy fan in general thing.

I don't believe there could be any argument, even if valid, that HB would accept. Futurecoach is right. He is an average coach, no where near the worst. The Bengals seem to play awful in the national spotlight, is that coaching? I don't know how you would quantify that. It probably is a factor, but not the only one. My brother and I discuss Marvin all the time, He wanted him fired after 2010. I still believe he should stay. They are still very much in the hunt. This is the NFL and is very unpreditable. The difference between 1 and 32 is not huge. We have had much worse.
