After the Bengals laying another turd on national TV last night, I'm in a debating mood.

Can someone please take the side of Marvin is a great coach and has done great here for the

Bengals so I can take the side of he is the worst coach in the entire NFL. Please someone, try and convince me that I'm wrong so I can try and see a silver lining around the debacle that is Marvin Lewis.

He has not improved one bit when it comes to

1. Clock Managment

Last night was classic Marvin, gets theball back with 1.30 left in the 2nd qtr and he chooses to sit on the ball and let the clock run out after being down mulitiple scores. He then decides to sit on the ball and let the clock run out at the end of the 3rd quarter when down by 3+ scores because this team has scored 24 points in a quarter how many times this year? Once?!?!?!?!?!?!?

2. Is horrible when it comes to getting a team ready to play a big game.

How many times over the last decade have the Bengals came into a National TV game only to flop on their face? This year may be the only time I can remember since maybe 2005 that this team actually won a couple of games on national TV, but once again last night they resort back to the same old joke of a team on National TV.

The lat time they came into a big game prepared was against Kansas City Marvin's first year when KC was undefeated. I can't remember another big game where they looked like they were ready to play from the start of the game.

3. How exactly is he that much better than the coaches in the 90's? Yea he may have won more games, but then again he's been around longer than any of them, he also has the most losses in franchise history and just like the 90's he has ZERO PLAYOFF WINS!!!! Who cares how many years in a row this could be that he makes the playoffs, when you lose the first round what does it really matter?

Marvin has been coaching this team 11 years and he for the first time this year is what...2 or 3 games over .500??? That is horrible. Name me any other team in the NFL that keeps a losing coach who has never won a playoff game on for over a decade....show me 1 team besides this team who does that.

Someone please show me the other side where he is actually great for this team!!! Please, I'm begging!!!!!

There are not any leaders on this team. Your punter gets his jaw broke and you do nothing as a team. The players on this team are soft, mentally and physically. Clock and Game management, yes you can put most of that on Marvin. However the players deserve most of the heat for this last game.

I'll take the side that some Bengals fans overreact over everything and just can't accept it when they lose a game.

Ok, that wasn't a very good argument for Marvin....next!

Whose job is it to prepare the team mentally? the coach

Not in the NFL, if the players cant do it on their own they dont need to be a professional athlete.

You can see a huge difference in players attitudes etc. when you just look from team to team and their coach. Teams usually take on the persona of their coach. Look at the Patriots, although I can't stand Bellichick, he does lead by example and his players buy into what he's selling them or they are gone.

Marvin HAS done great for the Bengals. It's just that "has" is in the past tense. He brought the Bengals out of a 15 year funk when he arrived and elevated them above a joke team. They are a decent team but I believe it will take another coach to make them a great team. I understand that the defense has been decimated by key injuries and I don't blame him for that. As mentioned already, the Bengals lack on field leadership and are soft and that is something a good coach should be able to correct.

I agree with everything you said except the "Marvin has done a great job" Now I will admit he changed the attitude whenhe first got here....but that was over a decade ago. How long do you give a guy who can't win until you change directions?

I think that may be the problem with a large portion of this fanbase. They are very happy with being mediocre. A great job by a head coach would be one that wins in the playoffs, not one that just gets there to be embarrassed int he first round year after year.

I believe what you said though about it's time for a new coach to take them to the next level. Marvin has done all he can do, time to let another coach to come in and finish the job.

I don't see how you can ignore what they were when he arrived vs where they are now. That was a great coaching job.

I'd say that Brady is more of a leader than Bellichick, not discrediting him though.

Players usually look towards each other as leaders, or "field generals" Brady on offense, and it used to be Ray Lewis for the Ravens. Not always the coach.

I said that when he first got here the attitude changes that were needed were way overdue and Marvin changed the attitude which was a huge boost and I give credit to Marvin for that. that was over 10 years ago. When will he start winning? I'm talking post season. That is afterall what matters in the end.

He has the same amount of playoff wins than every single coach has since 1991 which is zero. So before people ordain Marvin as Saint Marvin for saving the franchise, what really has he saved?

He has more non winning seasons than winning season. He has been coaching this team for 11 years and is barely above .500 and he has zero playoff wins.

What he did when he first got here was needed and I give him credit for that, but how long do you live in the past before figuring out it's time to move on to better things? Marvin has, since day 1 been a horrible in game manager and that hasn't changed.

That's the team the Bengals beat this year, right? It's one game. Bad special teams play cost them the game. End of story. If the team's attitude was crappy they would have folded up. They didn't. I didn't like some of the play calling, but I've got zero wins in the NFL, so I don't have a whole lot of faith in myself in that regard.

Old school here, but I used to love all the "In Marvin we Trust" threads going through BGP land. That was about 10 years ago. :lol2:

What is the definition of insanity? Trying the same thing over-and-over again and expecting a different result? That is what I feel the Bengals have with Marvin at the helm. Not a bad coach, but another first round exit and I believe enough of a sample size is in place to say that he is not the coach to get the Bengals over the hump. That hump for the Bengals used to be just getting to .500, but now it is more than that.

You are right....20 years ago getting to .500 was an improvement. Today it's not, a team that has not won a single playoff game in a generation is long overdue for a change at the top.
