Leading your our team to the BCS title game helps a little. Always has. Kind of hard to change that precedent now.

Agreed that it carries a lot of weight although it shouldn't. You should never base an individual award on a team's success or failure.

I think there's a good chance that winning it last year combined with the relatively poor performance of his TD cost him. His stats weren't better by enough of a margin to make that up. It could have been an interesting case study to see if he hadn't won last year.

 

That said, Manziel had by far his two worst games of the year back to back at the end. LSU shut him down and Missouri did almost as well. He was 16/41 for 224 yds, 1 TD, and 2 INTs against LSU. He was 24/35 against Mizzou but for just 195 yards and 1 TD. He rushed for a combined 75 yards in the two games. Not exactly the last impression you want to leave on Heisman voters.

 

A&M lost every game they played against ranked teams. Two of those, Manziel gave superhuman efforts and put them in position to win games they had no business being close in (Alabama, Auburn). Two of them, he played his worst games of the year (Missouri, LSU). I find no fault in the decision made by the committee.
