Anyone following this fiasco?

 

- Shanahan wants to be fired, so he can get paid $7M next season from the Redskins while not having to coach them.

 

- Rumors that he leaked to Schefter that he almost quit after last season due to the "buddy-buddy" relationship of RGIII and Snyder, hoping Snyder would then fire him. It hasn't worked as of yet.

 

- So now Shanahan is threatening to bench RGIII for the rest of the season to allow him to "get completely healthy" for the 2014 OTAs and season, hoping this will cause Snyder to fire him.

 

- Snyder is ignoring all this from Shanahan hoping he'll get ticked off and quit so he doesn't owe him anything for next season.

All parties are culpable. Shannahan never was an RGIII guy but got on board last season. He was a Ryan Tannehill and Kurt Cousins guy. Don't forget the Redskins mortgaged their future for RGIII. The Rams have their first round selection right now which is slated at the #2 spot, could be #1. RGIII let all of his success go to his head and he has been humbled, or you at least hope he has, this year. He blamed Shannahan for his injury, never shut his mouth during the offseason, vowed to be back by the season opener even though Shannahan and others knew he wasn't ready, etc. It has been a giant mess. Now he is trying to get fired.

 

I don't think it is a bad move to bench RGIII. I get the money side of it from Mike's part and also protecting your future, but I also think he wants to throw in Cousins and see if he can win games down the stretch to rub it in their faces.

Yeah I don't blame mike for much of this mess.

 

RG3 should have never been clears to play in the opener.

 

Why not bench him the rest of the year, nothing left to play for and maybe he needs to get healthy. That's 3 extra weeks of rehab he would get.

I think RGIII has shown his true selfish colors this year. He has placed blame with everyone connected with the Redskins, except for himself, for this season's struggles. Watch Tom Brady, or Drew Brees, or even Andrew Luck after a loss. They take responsibility for it. You need a leader at the QB position, something RGIII is clearly not yet.

What is happening in Washington is what happens when 2 big ego's collide.

 

Daniel Snyder has a huge ego, very Jerry Jones like when he first got there it got him in more trouble than not. Couple that with the very huge ego that Shanahan has and you have soap opera material.

 

That is als the very reason why Jerry Jones in Dallas is careful who he makes his HC because of what happened with Jimmy Johnson. Jerry Jones would rather have a coach that hasn't really done anything in his career as HC so he can still control him. Look at Dallas and the players they have had, there are great coaches that would love to go there, but Jerry Jones doesn't allow it, he hires instead people like their past 4 coaches.

 

Dan Snyder on the other hand thinks hiring big name coaches is the secret without going out and building a team around them. I love watching them implode, makes for great entertainment.

You can only hope that Cousins goes 3-0 and kicks butt these last three games. Talk about pouring gasoline on the fire.

If and when Mike leaves Washington after this year, and if the Bengals fail early in the playoffs. I wouldn't be suprised to see Marvin Lewis as the coach of the Redskins. He was the DC there in Washington for a year, and obviously knows how to work with a tough owner. It's just a thought, but hopefully that doesn't happen because that means the Bengals did make a serious run in the playoffs.

I love it when he is so pissed at his owner he will simply tell it like it is and not care at all.

 

This is also a reason Mike Brown would never hire a big time coach with an ego. Last coach he had like that was Wycherley and he booted him as soon as he went against Mikey.

Marvin isn't a big enough name for Snyder, and I think Snyder will be looking for an offensive coach. With the success that Chip Kelly has had, I wouldn't be surprised to see him dip into college again, for a big name. I don't know who that might be.

Definitely. At this point the Redskins made a poor choice in mortgaging the team future on him. Things can change but it's not looking good.
