December 12, 201312 yr Like you said he has all the leverage. Yanks on his no trade list so he said pay me more or I won't do it and sounds like the Yanks balked at that. Someone is still upset about the Votto contract. I'm not sure what he thinks he's worth....I mean, he isn't on the same level as the elite 2B, guys like Pedroia, Cano, Kinsler, Kipnis, Carpenter, heck even Utley if he's healthy. He makes more than Carpenter, Pedroia, and Kipnis. He, Utley, and Kinsler have pretty similar salaries. What more does he think he deserves?
December 12, 201312 yr So let me make sure I understand this correctly. The Yankees are one of the teams that Phillips has in his contract that he can't be traded to without his approval?
December 12, 201312 yr ^ Correct. So it sounds more like Phillips vetoed the trade more than the Yankees rejected the deal if the Yankees were willing to make the trade without any negotiation of a new contract correct?
December 12, 201312 yr So it sounds more like Phillips vetoed the trade more than the Yankees rejected the deal if the Yankees were willing to make the trade without any negotiation of a new contract correct? Basically, from what I read, he made it known the only way he'd accept it was to rework the contract, so the Yankees then rejected the deal.

He asked for more money and they rejected the deal is what it sounds like. They didn't get into much more detail than that. Not sure if they would take it based on his current contract. He didn't use his no trade clause per all the reports.
