Preseason #2 in some polls goes down on opening night.

Anyone have a stat line for each time?

This is an upset, but how much of an upset is it?

In a season opener matching the two highest rated teams in the Sixth Region, No. 2 Doss went on a binge of three-point shots in the third quarter that gave the Dragons a 72-67 victory at No. 1 PRP on Tuesday night.

Terrell Gray, an unheralded 6-foot-2 junior guard, tossed in 24 of his game-high 29 points in the last 9:21 to spark the Dragons to a victory .

Gray then scored on a rebound, but PRP — ranked No. 2 statewide by the coaches — raised its lead to 42-39.

After that, Doss — ranked 14th statewide — hit three straight threes in the final 1:21 of the third period — two by Gray and one by Martinus Williams to zip ahead 48-42.

“They shot wide-open threes,” he said of Doss. “They drove right past us in the lane. They mauled us on the boards and got 90 percent of the loose balls. They flat wanted it more. My hat’s off to them. They were on a mission.”

I knew Doss would be better this year, and will be a tough out in the 6th region but didnt expect to see this on opening night.

The article says Doss was #2 in the region. I didn't know that. I am not as surprised now. Louisville regions are usually deep in taleneted good teams.

I thought PRP had a tendency to get pushed around last year. It sounds like Doss was physical and active and it really hurt the Panthers. Hopefully they can correct that as the season goes on. Plenty of time to figure things out. Too much talent not to.

Still think PRP will ultimately advance out of the Sixth and go to Rupp.
