Ryle plays Brossart too which have beat them the past two years including a 10 run rule two seasons ago. Every team plays a few cupcakes, and regardless if a team is great or not, a smart coach will rest players periodically through the year.

No one remembers the champions of ANY division of college sports but division I. Winning the State Championship is hard to do and should not be diminished by not having only 1 CHAMPION.

Was Lex Catholic's Football Championship diminished because they were the 3A Champ? They seemed to be celebrating pretty hard in the Herald Leader.

 

I dont think so. Also true Class A Schools like Pikeville and others only have 100 or so male athletes and we dont live in a town of 250,000 people. Their are 90,000 people in the county with 6 High Schools. Dont give me Diminished! Our talent pool is diminished. Paintsville winning it all in 1990 was a phenominal feat.

I agree football is a different subject where small schools have little chance to compete but could Lexington Catholic have beaten Trinity? Who knows we never will see, At the end of the year Catholic may have been the best football team in the state. At the end of 2005 baseball season LCA wins title and it was a feeling those kids could not have gotten if they had onlywon ALL A state championship. They know the were the best in the State of Kentucky for 2005 with no exceptions. Being a true State Champion is important to the kids who are true athletes and want to compete with the best to be the best.I can see where everyone wants a piece of a championship and thats why there is summerball, Go to a weak tournament and win it ,you will feel special and everything will be great. The good athlete wants to win a meaningful championship in baseball and other sports where small schools can compete withg anyone. Watching a small school like LCA evolve with the same players for over 4 years and win the State was amazing and every team should aspire to have that chance every season. Quit complaining about fairness because life or sports aren't fair, just reach for the stars and see where life takes you. If you couldn't have beaten the top A schools, LCA, Heath, Pikeville, or Beachmont what does it matter if you classed it anyway. If you were one of these schools you should feel like you had a good chance to win state because you were as good as most teams in it.

You may take it personally but you need to chill out. I am from Pikeville and we were able this last year to compete on a state level. I have nothing but respect for LCA, I know that program and have become friends with Steve Bentley and have great admiration for him. I coach a summer ball team and take exception to your comments. We only play in the top tier tournaments we can find. I know LCA did the same. As a matter of fact, our last game for the 18 year old team in 2004 came against a kid by the name of Chaz Roe. For your information we beat them 1-0 on their home field. Only 2 teams beat him in Minor League Ball last year. That group of kids that played for me then was fearless. I am not taking anything away from Chaz, he was phenominal. That summer we played Harriison County, Lafayette, Christian Co./ Clarksville, TN combined, Dunbar, and PRP, our record was 8-5 againts those teams so dont dog our summer program. The year before we played in LCA's summer tournament. Our 15 year old team is playing in the Gameday Woodbat Classic in Owensboro, the 15u AAU world series in Kingsport, and a huge Tournament in Oakridge TN that has 15 states represented as of Feb 1 this coming summer. My goal is to make the kids understand we can play with anyone. Winning a weak summer league tourney is meaningless. Summer ball is about exposing kids to great competition to help get them better. I hope you fully understand where I am coming from.

 

If you would look at the previous posts in the thread about Classes, I stated that I would like to see a champion of champions with the four class winners participating.

 

Even LCA has an advantage over Pikeville, Beechwood(not Beachmont)and Heath due to the number of school-age kids with which to choose. Yes Pikeville was ranked and deservedly so last year, however those classes are rare in the mountains.

High schools don't recruit and the sky isn't blue!!

My point exactly Pikeville was one of the better schools and should be able to compete against anyone( which they have very well ) don't misunderstand me I am not bashing small schools I just believe 1 championship is what sports is all about. I believe pikeville or as stated paintsville would rather win the whole thing than watered down version where 4A schools call themselves the best. I have high regard for small schools and have confidence that they can compete with big schools in baseball and other sports. I don't see KHSAA ever having grand championship only classes and I personally would hate to see this happen.

Last time I checked, I don't ever remember seeing Ryle as a threat of any kind in baseball. I hope these 30 pitchers can help them develop a baseball program. Of course it only takes 4 or 5 pitchers to compete, 3 to win a State Championship, and only 1 can pitch at a time. 30 will take up a lot of room in the dugout or bullpen and on the bus.

Ryle may not have had much the last couple of years but they are going to be really good this season. A definite region contender. If my memory serves me most of their team this season consists of underclassmen, also. IMO, Ryle will be good for a while.

I agree stickymitts....this thread was started just to see how everyones' program was shaping up for the 06 season and it seems like some people are jealous that some schools are having good turnouts....good luck this season with your program.

There is a difference because in college, athletes are recruited unlike in high school. There are different Divisions in the NCAA because of things such as recruiting budgets. For example it wouldn't be fair for a D III school to have to compete against a DI school because a D III doesn't give athletic scholarships. You can't compare this to college because most of these kids grow up in these areas and go to these schools because of where they live, unlike being recruited in college.

 

Morehead does not give athletic scholarships, but they still compete on D1 level. Zero of the Ivy League schools offer Athletic scholarships and they all compete D1.
