Ballard 96 Scott County 85

Featured Replies

Little doubt in my mind the Bruins are #1 in the state. They handled a very good Holmes team in a scrimmage Saturday and Scott Co. tonight pretty easily. They will be very tough to beat.

32 for Snider. 29 for Martin.

38 for Gilbert.

Any defense?

Ballard's perimeter defense was atrocious. Open shooters everywhere for Scott County, which hit (I think) 10 threes on the night. As for Ballard... they're going to hang 90 on an awful lot of teams this year. There are going to be other games where Ballard's perfectly capable of getting 100 but Renner pulls his starters.

Well, this was a great one to kick off the season. Great, rowdy atmosphere and plenty of talent to go around on the floor.

Can't say enough positive things about Scott County's Trent Gilbert. He kept a level head all game, even when Ballard got way ahead and took what was available to him. Ballard left him alone on the perimeter for most of the first three quarters and he capitalized; then started going to the rim when the Bruins cheated out to the arc. Fantastic.

Ballard is so frustrating sometimes. Had every opportunity to put a nail in Scott County early in the third and didn't. They got rushed on offense and really struggled to break the press at times. At least three times late on, Snider was left to bring the ball up alone against the press and had no second guard to relieve the pressure. It resulted in two turnovers and baskets. They also consistently left Gilbert and Ware alone behind the arc.

That said, Quentin Snider can play. As I said in the update thread, Martin is on pace to break Allan Houston's career scoring record at Ballard, which would really be something.

Mike Fields said Gilbert had 40. Pretty impressive.

How did Long look for Scott County?

Exactly what I was wondering.

Why they'd leave Gilbert and Ware open on the perimeter is beyond me. I'd think Martin could handle Martini 1-on-1 with ease and it Long was in foul trouble early. How did Scott County get so open? I'd imagine Ballard went man most of the game, especially when Long was out. Did Scott County just break their pressure and get looks?

Poor.

Martin went right at him whenever he was in the game. That caused foul trouble which put Long on the bench. I think he ended up with four point and two rebounds. Truthfully, he couldn't stop fouling so there wasn't even enough gameplay to get much of a look at him.

Yea. He finished the scrimmage with six fouls, and sat out a lot of time during it.

I will say that he stepped out to around 8-10 feet and looked good sticking a jumper, and that there were times when he appeared to be posting hard (or at least trying to) but didn't get a touch. I'd imagine it's going to take some time for him to get in the flow of things.

Getting better each time he goes out would be a very solid goal for him.

Ballard starting the season with impressive win.
