December 13, 201312 yr Heard someone say it was going to be too nasty to go deer hunting this end. Kinda like last weekend duck hunting. :thumb:
December 17, 201312 yr Just got back from Louisiana where our group of 12 guys killed over 200 ducks... it was a blast.
December 17, 201312 yr Author Just got back from Louisiana where our group of 12 guys killed over 200 ducks... it was a blast. I bet. I am in the process of finding a taxidermist I like for a pair of woodies. What was flying that south this time of year okie?
December 18, 201312 yr I've never had the opportunity to duck hunt and I've been fascinated with it since I was a kid. Maybe someday we'll have a season in SE KY. Ducks seem to be plentiful. Would also love to lay in fields and shoot geese.
December 18, 201312 yr I bet. I am in the process of finding a taxidermist I like for a pair of woodies. What was flying that south this time of year okie? We killed Mallards, Wood Ducks, a couple of canvas backs, Red Heads, Spoon Bills, Teals, that is off the top of my head... we also killed a few Snow Geese and a couple Speckle Bellies. It was a good time with lots of different ducks flying.
January 27, 201412 yr Author Went Saturday for the last time. Limited again. We had several mallards, canvasbacks (had to stop shooting them), couple of redheads, a golden eye, but the geese wouldn't play the game. The river was absolutely loaded with ducks. We hunted through slush, as you can see by the avatar. Just a great season. And again, we don't own a decoy and I have never blown a call. Jumpshooting them from a boat is just a blast, no pun intended.
January 27, 201412 yr Author ....and I'm still searching for a recipe that I really like. I have a friend who is going to smoke some of them, and I am trying to get a recipe that another friend uses to bake them after marinating them somehow.

He had a permit to shoot the geese at AJ Jolly and gave it up since conditions were right on the river.

January 27, 201412 yr Do you eat them TAC? Not very often. He owes me a couple since he borrowed my cooler to go to Canada earlier this year. I'll get a recipe for you.

January 30, 201412 yr duck breast marinade. 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, 2 tablespoons minced garlic, 1/4 small onion chopped fine, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Marinade over night. I use a little bacon grease or butter, I like bacon grease, in a skillet on medium heat, cover and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or simmer in beef broth and red wine until done. You can pound them thinner, and reduce the cooking time
