Is the 9th Region wide open???

Featured Replies

Holmes has definitely come back to the pack and a loss to NCC proves that. Highlands played them tough with Rice and would certainly control the paint against the Bulldogs now. CovCath has played a killer schedule and are certainly talented and disciplined enough to win 3 regional games.

Since CovCath and Holmes are from same district they wouldn't meet in the Regional until the finals. One of them would draw in with Highlands and either play them 1st round or in the semi's. I think the team that draws away from Highlands would have an advantage because their toughest matchup would be NCC/Newport.

I'm not convinced that the 33rd or 34th District winners could win the Regional. Dixie has no inside game and is strictly one dimensional. Also don't take care of the ball and too many turnovers to win 3 regional games. Ryle is playing well right now and St. Henry could get hot but neither has proven to be consistent.

I saw Highlands when they should have beaten Holmes WITH Rice. Now, its a no-brainer that the Birds are #1 until proven otherwise.

That's the cliche. Do the Bluebirds get to go to state if they lose to the Bulldogs but should have won?

Fair point. However, this is the truth: Holmes without an inside presence cannot beat the Birds IMO.

The 9th remains what it has been for most of this year, a 3 horse race..CCH and Highlands have closed the gap (or Holmes problems have closed the gap) but until one of them beats them, Holmes has to be the favorite by about a nose.

You really can't say that until it happens.

Are you saying I can't make a prediction based on logic?

Wouldn't that limit much discussion on BGP?

Sure he can! IMO will validate any statement you care to make, no matter how crazy it is. Just kidding you cshs81. You may be right, but I hope not.

I guess for those of you saying that you have to have Holmes #1 I would ask: why?

Reason A) I'm a fan and my kids go there.

Reason B) I think you can only base it on the past, not what you think the future holds. When you look at past head-to-head games, I'd say there's little doubt that Holmes would be a favorite. The past is objective. The future is subjective.

I think if the dynamics change what has happened in the past becomes less predictive of what will happen in the future. The dynamics at Holmes have certainly changed. I still think it is a 3 team race, but it is not so much Holmes' to lose as it was 3 weeks ago.

I don't see the importance of who we think is #1. There is no dominant team in the 9th that is an overwhelming favorite. The tournament is not seeded so actually there is no #1. There are dist champs and dist runnerups that is it, nobody caries a ranking. I still say pay attention to the early rounds of districts. Anything can happen.

So when Kenyon Martin went down with a broken leg, you still assumed UC was a true contender for the NCAA championship? If Lebron goes down the for the Cavs, do you assume it has no impact on their future playoff chances?

Wow that Rice kid must have been a heck of a player

If the Birds can take 2 of their next 3 games.... I say they are the team to beat. They have Holy Cross (should win), Pendleton Co (toss up) and Shelby Co away (odds are against them). Either way, they will have played in State Tournament type games and they will be ready to take on the Bulldogs again. Cov Cath will be there as well and only because of their strong schedule. It should be a fun tourney.

I can honestly say he is very good. He has a great jumper in the lane, hangs in the air and can leap very well. A solid rebounder and decent defender. He may be thin and only 6'3 but he plays like he is 6'6. He can even lead the break. The fact that he is no longer on the team is actually a very sad situation and unfortunate. You hate to see this happen to a kid with this kind of talent.
