"He's (Dalton) our QB and he's going to be our QB for a long time" - Marvin Lewis

Featured Replies

Dalton is 15th among QB's in the AFC at converting 3rd and between 3 and 7 yards. He's very good statistically on 3rd and shorter or 3rd and longer according to Warren Sharp. Sharp is very plugged into these numbers.

He has them 20th overall in 3rd down conversions.

It is only not a problem if the Bengals are diligent and can't find a suitable replacement. If they merely settle on Dalton, and bring nobody into to challenge him, then it is a major problem. This is a Super Bowl caliber team. Dalton, until he can convert more consistently on 3rd down, is not a Super Bowl QB.

I agree with your analysis. As long as the QB and coach combination continues to fill seats, Mike Brown isn't going to make any changes. As I've said for years, Brown's financial interests are probably better served by having the team go 9-7 vs. 13-3.

Dalton tosses up another Int that wasn't even close to any bengal receiver in the Chargers game. 9th int in last 4 games, yet he is Marvin's idea of a NFL qb? MArvin should be packaged in a deal with Dalton and traded for a bottle of gatorade.

I am very down on Dalton too, but what do you expect the Bengals to do this year? Josh Johnson is not the answer for this team. They obviously see Johnson every day in practice, and there is a reason why he was out of the NFL last year. The Bengals are in first place, and trying to get the 2 seed. His QB is someone who is very streaky and can play really well when his confidence is up. So what good would it do for him to come out and say we are not sure on Dalton and may need to look elsewhere next year. He is having to say what any coach would say in this position, and that is that they are happy with him and that he is their QB. Just because he gets the seal of approval during the season, doesn't mean they won't try to address it after the season. Which they better address it.

He is far from great, but he isn't nearly as bad as you make him out to be. For someone so intelligent and seemingly level-headed, you're a smidge over-the-top with the anti-Dalton stuff.

I've been critical of Dalton, but you even cause me to become a Dalton defender with your rants on him. The back of his football card is actually pretty decent, although watching every play of every game, we all get a little hyper-critical.

That throw to Hawkins was really good and had to be thrown into a very tight spot. The interception was a joke...just ridiculous.

We all have a tendency to live in extremes with the teams we follow because we are so into them, I get it, but he isn't this pond algae that you paint him out to be.

He just frustrates me. After decades of wanting to see this team win a SB and this being the closest the team has been imo to having a shot at it since the 80's (2005 was the most talented offense this team has had since the 80's but this year they have both the offense and defense to be great) is just frustrating watching the rest of the team step up while he continues to make the same rookie type mistakes.

That is what is so frustrating. He has shown no improvement at all since his rookie year and that is what kills me.

The throw to Green on the last drive where they ran out the clock was a perfect throw, also. That was a gutsy call by Gruden or check down by Dalton seeing the one-on-one. That play really put the Chargers on their heals and even opened up the running game more on that last drive. The real key to all the offensive woes for the Bengals, besides Dalton, is running the ball. When they run like they did yesterday, they are really tough to beat. As I have said all along, just stay close, which we have all year, and we will win our share. They will be pushed, though, when a team gets up by 14-17 in the 2nd half and they have to pass. Dalton just doesn't have the come from far behind gene.

I agree with everythink except the talent thing. If you switch Dalton and put him on the 2005 team, we never see how good that offense could be. If Dalton is missing Green, how was he suppose to hit Chad. My point being Carson Palmer's play was the big thing for that 2005 team. If you put the 2005Palmer on this team, then this offense is probably one of the best in football like that team was. Imagine that 2005 Palmer with AJ Green, both TE's, Bernard out of the backfield, and shoot Marvin Jones and Sanu have shown what they can do when Dalton can get them the ball. This offense just like the defense has a lot of talent, just not the QB play of 2005. Which is what frustrates me about Dalton, because I couldn't be upset if people just werent open. However we see him constantly miss open receivers.

The talent as a whole on this team continues to show even through all the injuries. If 2005 had all those injuries, they would have been in trouble because they had no depth. That was my point in saying this was the most talented TEAM because starters down to the backups is much more talent. The main thing that helped 2005 was their QB play was able to let people see the talent on offense. Same thing could be on this team if they had the same QB play.

Great point, and that is why I always say it is easy for people to say something was the wrong decision if it doesn't work. Gruden choosing to pass and them hitting Green set up that game winning drive. However if that throw is incomplete, they are saying how stupid he was for passing it. Its always easy to second guess if something doesn't work.

I will hardly ever get upset for them throwing. I just get upset at the inability to make a half decent throw down field most of the time.

The pass to Hawkins was the best pass he threw the entire game. The in the threw was the worst throw all season.

I am the same way. We have talent on offense, we see guys are open and we have a QB who misses them. Its not like there are to many passes that he misses where we can say well that would have had to be a perfect throw because it was good coverage. There are guys open and he just completely misses the throw, or gets stuck on one receiver and tries to force it, instead of going throw his reads. Very frustrating!
