Opening Weekend for Modern Gun Deer Season

I wont have it officially scored but I will do my own fudging.

Iam thinking he is maybe 125 to 130:thumb:

This is a typical deer that presents itself almost every yr if not every other yr. My track record on this farm is every other yr and sometimes 3 yrs before I take a buck.

Living in Ft Thomas has a tendency to spoil a hunter when a 140 class buck is a regular sighting with some 160 to 180 inch bucks in the area. I sometimes sit in my treestand on the farm freezing my butt off thinking "why in the world would I be here when I can kill a monster at the house" and then of course nothing is worst than having my wife tell me "you should have been here tonite, the big 10 pt was at the feeder for an hr":thumb:

Whoa! You have a feeder at your house?

You better not let the Deer police find out you have that.

I would have guessed bigger then that but hard to tell from pics. I was guessing closer to 135 possibly even 140 depending on mass measurements and main beams.

Why?

It is illegal to specifically feed deer in Ft Thomas because of the over population...

Iam not feeding the deer, the deer are stealing feed from my commercial bird feeder...Just sayin

I talked to several hunters this week. They are more excited about this weekend than last weekend. They were saying they don't think the bucks were even rutting yet? Everyone saw a lot of does but none were being courted by the boys!

Iam with you on this one. I will be in the stand Friday morning and the weekend.

I have seen a little bit of chasing but not the type of "when I catch you its on" kind of chasing...

It's been a good year for people down here in Irvine. On opening weekend (Saturday Night) for bow, my best friend got a 8 point buck still in velvet then last Saturday night, he got a doe while his girlfriend got a button buck (nearly the same time, both were hunting together). The very next day (Sunday) my cousin got a doe.

I know another guy who got a buck still in velvet with a bow on opening bow weekend.

I watched a six point Tuesday make a ground scrape 15 yards from my stand along the edge of the woods and four does were in the field with him and they went to his scrape but they all just wandered around like it was Summer time. I had another on a slight chase last Saturday but not much else. I'm hoping the full rut is close. I will be out every evening and in the mornings as well this weekend.

Perfect finish to an awesome weekend. The Birds won and so did the "Stack" in the woods of Gallatin Co. Around 5:20 tonight a doe came running down the hollow and stopped 10yds from my stand. I grabbed my bow and was fixin' to whack her and noticed she was looking back up the holler. I glanced up and this biggun was around 70 yds away. She trot's off and he follows until I pull out my grunt tube and stop him dead in his tracks. He proceeds to come right to me......dropped 20 yds from my stand. My biggest buck since I started hunting in 07'.
