With the KHSAA handing down a post season ban to Fairview, here is how they will address the playoff pairings...

 

 

2. Fairview’s second-place district finish in 2013 will be vacated and the team will not be permitted to participate in the 2013 KHSAA football playoffs. The vacated game between Fairview and the third-place team from the opposite district will be considered a forfeit by Fairview. No adjustments will be made to the district standings or playoff schedule of any other team in the two affected districts.

Is this fair to Paintsville and Nicholas County?

 

Would it have been more equitable to move Paintsville to 3rd and Nicholas to 2nd?

The way this stands, the 1st place team in D8, Pikeville, will host Nicholas, and the 3rd place team (undecided yet because of tie breaker) will get a bye instead of having to travel to the 2nd place team in D7.

In addition to all of this, the 2/3/4 seeds in District 8 are in the weakest 3-way tie-breaker of All-Time

 

South Floyd/Allen Central/Phelps are a combined 6-21... currently the tie-breake rpoints go:

Hillcrest (OH) -1

Jenkins- 1

 

Allen Central 1

Phelps 0

No Wins

 

 

Phelps plays Hurley, VA (3-5)

Allen Central plays Knott Central (3-6)

Likely no team gains a single tie-breaker point tonight as the odds are good all three lose and Jenkins/Hillcrest both lose as well.

When you are doing a three-way tie, head-to-head only factors in if one team beat both of the other two. So it would appear South Floyd gets the #2 seed by virtue of their two points, Allen Central gets the #3 seed and Phelps gets the #4 spot. Phelps' victory of Allen Central holds no meaning in the tiebreaker.

 

And obviously all of this can change if any or all of the three teams can pick up a victory this evening.

gchs-uk9 is right, if you use the tie breaker in a 3 way tie, once you go to the point system you use it to settle all 3 spots, not just the first spot.

But it's utterly ridiculous to give the 3 seed from the other district a bye. There's time, why not just bump Paintsville and Nicholas County up? Pikeville would get a bye in that scenario, but they're essentially going to be given a super-bye into the region finals now as a result of this. They'll destroy Nicholas County and then get Allen Central, a team that has no business being in the second round and wouldn't have beaten Paintsville or Fairview.

As always Julian took the lazy way out and gave the #3 team from Pikevilles district a BYE instead of giving it to Pikeville.

Seriously, could you imagine the farce this would have been had Fairview managed to beat Raceland? PHELPS would have advanced to the second round.
