Thoughts?

The top 2 get huge roadblocks to their undefeated seasons this week, still head and shoulders above the rest.

I include DeSales on their level.

Closer than you think. Plus I find it hard to believe the top 2 are "head and shoulders above the rest" when CAL beat a Desales team at Cal by 3. Kind of tells you the two are closely matched. I'd say the top 3/4 are, but definitely not top 2.

Good to know! So whoever wins that semifinal won't have to worry about the following week. Better hope the players don't have that mindset.

That's what everyone was saying in 2011, that the mayfield vs beechwood semi-final was the state championship. Obviously someone forgot to send hazard that memo!

I truly think it's a 3 team race for the title between Caldwell, CAL and Desales. These 3 have separated themselves from the field, imo. The next 8-9 teams have been juggled from one week to the next. I'd throw Union Co and OB Cath in there with the other 7 on the board this week and you could probably throw OB Cath in the Top 5 and wouldn't get a lot of static. You have 3 really solid teams and about 9 other good teams capable of beating the other 9 on any given night, but, I don't think capable of winning 5 consecutive weeks to win a championship. NCC and somerset probably have the most talent from the eastside, so, I'd give them a slight shot at winning it all, but, that's simply because they don't have to go thru any of the Top 3 till the title game and in a 1 game scenario, anything can happen.

I thought 2A was a foregone conclusion...everybody in the east playing for runner up and CAL, Desales and rest of the west playing to be a semi-finalist runner-up.

Seriously can anybody in 2A stay in a game with Caldwell for more than a quarter or two?

Even though CAL beat Desales, I think they're the team to beat. They've had the best wins of any 2a team and did so impressively. Not sure Caldwell or Cal could beat J.Hardin and WCentral would be a tough game for either, too. Desales beat them both and by a decent margin. The final scores were fairly close, but, it wasn't like they didn't control big portions of those games. In other words, it wasn't a fluke in either case. They also manhandled a pretty good Bardstown team, who, outside of 2 games, have been impressive.

Most questions will be answered on Friday. Regular season finales. Obviously, how Caldwell fares against Mayfield will go a long way in giving an accurate gauge on where they are. We know what De Sales is. On the other side, Somerset has righted the ship. As for NewCath, the Beechwood game is never a true gauge of where they are. They've lost to Beechwood and stormed through the playoffs. They've beaten Beechwood and blown it in the playoffs. I wish that I had a better beat on them.

Desales beat JH by 5 points. And while I won't say it was a fluke, it wouldn't happen again.
