Yeah but UK fans, past and present, are in a league of their own when it comes to college basketball. You know it. I know it. We all know it.

 

They are also in a league of their own for positive reasons as well. One example of this is the Hoops for Haiti telethon.

 

This article talks about how Kentucky had donated more to Haiti than the entire country of China had. Another article I found talked about a girl who made $40 per week donating $20. If we're mentioning the bad stuff, it's only fair to mention things like this too.

I agree. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it and think people get overly worked up about it. I'm a UK alum and found some humor in it.

 

I just didn't think it was overly funny because some of the stuff in there was just recycled material. It's kind of like that episode of South Park where they spoof family guy. If you read Travis' article on Tennessee, there are the same wore 'v is trying to get his GED', wears 'w's jersey' to 'x's "big" event' and 'y person doesn't know that he's raising z's children who all have different Dads'. Rinse and repeat.

 

I'm all for comedy of all types, just as long as it's new and original or at least thought provoking. Not saying I read Clay Travis' work expecting high art, just that it's not something worth getting worked up over or whatever.

 

I'm more upset about UK fans who do the things that make the University of Kentucky's fan base, as a whole, look bad. For example, when it got cool to call Louisville 'ghetto', some of the other things I've mentioned earlier, etc. I think in this regard, UK fans have a little ground to make-up, despite the fact that many of the people who are stereotyped as "UK fans" have never stepped onto the campus.

 

"Blackbirds" was a favorite I'd frequently hear.

... but this just seems... lazy. It's like he came up with a bunch of redneck jokes and then stuck in a few proper nouns to make sure it applied to Cat fans. Maybe I'm just too close and so my own image of "The Stereotypical UK Fan" is more detailed, but I'm just not impressed.

I'm a UK fan and it seems pretty accurate to me. Go back and read the last two coach hiring threads and tell me it isn't. Wire transfers, horse farm shopping, fight information. Our fanbase will sell a t-shirt touting ANY minor accomplishment. We have some really ignorant fans.

 

But UK fans are entertaining. I wouldn't have us any other way.

Nah. It wouldn't even be funny. Part of the problem is that the "stereotypical" UK fan doesn't work. There are several distinct types of UK fan. There's the redneck to be sure. That's the easy one. But there are also... the fancy lad UK frat bro; the Louisville East End suburbanite child of an alum; the needlessly dressed-up Lexingtonian; the Northern Kentuckian looking to remind everyone that "IT'S NOT CINCINNATI DANG IT"; the Louisville South End guy whose family has been UK fans for generations despite none of them ever going to school there... you get the picture. Difficult to pin down at times.

 

So I won't go through that exercise...
