It's an honor to beat both, back to back. But it is a rarity for the opportunity to even exist. All stars have to align (scheduling in the regular season, and set up in the playoffs).

 

Again, few have ever done it.

You know this feat by Male is special.

 

However to go historical, some years the best team in AAAA didn't get the chance to beat both because St X or Trinity weren't good enough to both meet the eventual state champ on the way to the title.

 

For discussion purposes I would say: 1981 Henry Clay, 1996 Nelson County, 1984 Christian County and the aforementioned GRC team probably would have done it in their respective years but neither the Rocks or Tigers were able to meet them in the playoffs cause neither posed a threat.

They did, 28-21 I believe, we had a heck of a time trying to tackle their RB, they were very good...

I just thought of something. T and X used to be in different regions but X has pretty much been in the same region (and maybe district) as Male. When Male beat Trinity in State back in 2000, wouldn't they probably had to beat X along the way somehow? The only way not would be if Manual, Fern Creek or someone else in X's district or region beat X before Male could get to them? Or, back then did teams in a district go and play a different district and maybe X lost at that point?

Also, some time around 2007 (give or take a year or two), Trinity beat Male BARELY due to a Male broken play in the play offs. The QB was supposed to have passed the ball to Male's star player (what was his name??? He play of UofL afterwards) for what looked to be a certain game winning TD. Instead of passing the ball, the QB wanted to score the TD for himself but a T player wrapped him up on the 2 yard line and Male turned the ball over on loss of downs. Had Male won that game, I think they would have beaten both T and X in the same season.
