October 17, 201312 yr You're not going to get the Marlins to take on payroll to give up Stanton. He is easy cheaper and under team control. If you want him any Reds package would start with Cingrani and Hamilton. I'd do that.
October 18, 201312 yr I'd do that. I was in the same boat until September....The impact Hamilton had on games was unbelievable IMO. I'd give up Cingrani, but don't think I'd part with Hamilton anymore.

October 18, 201312 yr If you can't resign Arroyo and give up Cingrani, who is your 5th starter? Or 6th starter when Cueto goes down? We've been through this already...Chapman would've been and still would be in the rotation. He's wrong-handed also.

October 18, 201312 yr And your 6th when Cueto gets hurt or if Chapman can't handle the workload? There's plenty of options that would be more than serviceable as a 5th or 6th man for the rotation in free agency that would be a heck of a lot cheaper than resigning Arroyo. The drop off in the 5th spot would be more than made up for with the huge boost Stanton's bat would give the lineup.

You don't give up good starting pitching, plain and simple. Figure something out with a reliever or two and someone else. You can't give up proven left handed starting pitching and expect to win.

They can't win with the good starting pitching either, because they have zero offense, so your solution is to just sit on your hands, do nothing, and watch the team underachieve year after year? And I'm sorry, half a season is hardly "proven".

If you want him any Reds package would start with Cingrani and Hamilton. They have to spend some money. Taking on Chapman isn't going to be a huge hit to their budget. I'm sure he would have a huge Cuban following.

And I'm sorry, half a season is hardly "proven". Since when is "figure something out with a reliever or two and someone else" considered sitting on your hands? A reliever plus Phillips for a big bat, or add Heisey. Or anyone not in the starting rotation. If you don't think Cingrani can be a solid 4 in the MLB this is a pointless discussion. Dude through 104 innings with a 1.099 whip. That's a pretty damn good sample size.

October 18, 201312 yr Phillips, a reliever, and a Heisey type will return next to nothing MLB ready. If you can't see that this is a pointless discussion. HAHA. Okay. It's all about needs. If the Reds can put something together that someone needs, especially with a team that is cutting some payroll, the trade can be made. Since we don't know anyone's need or plan, it definitely is possible.

Since we don't know anyone's need or plan, it definitely is possible. Numerous MLB guys have said moving Phillips will be extremely difficult, and that if they find a taker, they won't get much of anything for him. Heisey going to bring in that big bat? The middle reliever? Sorry, not happening. If a team is cutting payroll, why the hell would they take on Phillips albatross of a contract?
