Nope...Simon Kenton has the best run defense in the state. Everybody knows that.

They're pretty good only allowing 101 rushing yards per game, but that doesn't beat the -2 rushing yards per game that South Warren is allowing, or is it "not" allowing, I don't even known how to phrase what South Warren is doing.

Mine was a joke. Those are "Madden" numbers that South Warren is putting up.

The numbers don't quite match what South Warren posted when you look at the stats submitted in the games from their opposition...but still very impressive nonetheless

Logan Co, Greenwood, and Edmonson have not entered stats.. but for the other games South Warren shows they allowed 58 Total Rush yards whereas the other schools entered totals show they would have allowed 114 in those games.

The problem with South Warren is their wins have came over teams that are a combined 16-25 with Etown being the lone team with a winning record (their wins are over teams that are a combined 10-22). Their loss came to a Daviess County who is historically in the bottom 5 or 6 teams of 6A.

It is clear SW has a very good defense...but the question remains how will that very good defense look against an actual good offense.

Which means the answer probably lies somewhere in between. I assume you could find something similar with other schools.

South Warren lost to Daviess County because they couldn't score in the red zone. They outgained them significantly and it sure wasn't their defense that cost them.

The stats also lend itself to a whole new question as well.

South Warren, according to their stats, have allowed a grand total of 261 Total yards for the entire season. Simply eye popping stats when you break it down to 37 yards PER GAME.

It is safe to assume that basically every possession the SW defense has been on the field has been a 3 and Out. This tells me that South Warren's offense has had more possessions than any team in the State of KY to this point. Yet, for all this...and what I am to assume has been phenomenal field position... South Warren is only averaging 283 Yards per game of offense and only hit the 40 point mark twice all season. One of those teams was Logan County (cough..err....91 points to Bowling Green) and the other is Hart County who is allowing 30.5 per game.

Despite more than likely the most offensive possessions and most likely unbelievable field position against a weak schedule...South Warren's offense really has been very pedestrian by all accounts. IS last Friday's difficulties an outlier..or is it foreshadowing what South Warren can expect when they play quality teams come November?

South Warren has running clocked three out of their seven opponents, and one of those three (Hart Co.) shortened the quarters. In the others, they led Warren East 35-0 at halftime, E-Town 21-0 at the half, and Edmonson 21-0 at the half. In the East & E-Town game they had nearly 300 yards of offense for the game, but the Edmonson County game they struggled. They have also scored 6 TDs via defense or special teams. Thus they would not need yardage for those.

South Warren is not in the business of putting up gaudy numbers. In some of the games they began substituting early and in some they made some turnovers after getting a big lead that slowed them down and prevented the scores from being even higher. Perhaps the red zone has been an issue, as has their field goal kicking game where they've missed some attempts. Last week they had 360 yards of offense, or 358 if you go by Daviess County's stats. Yards weren't the problem, 4 red zone trips, two turnovers on downs, a missed and a made FG being all they got was.

Being without Iyiegbuniwe is a big deal, one that will affect them moving forward. That's also the key to watch.

While Daviess County has traditionally been at the bottom what some have not looked at is they are 4 and 2 now they also have only given up 8, 10, 18, and 8 points over the last 4 weeks. Yes they have big numbers up to Owensboro and Owensboro Cath. South out gained them 350 +/- yards to 155+/- yards. 4 trips in red zone with missed field goal, four and out from around 10 yard line, made field goal, fumble on 6 yard line as time expired. Not counting the interception from the 28 yard line in the first half and the 45 yard td run called back for holding. It's also interesting to note south had 15 penalties to DC one.

What I am saying is based on stats and seeing the game in person that game was a fluke. Maybe they were a little over confident going in to it maybe they need a wake up call some times a loss like this is the best thing for them. I know they struggled in the red zone, I know the defense didn't set them up in a lot of short field positions like in the past few games. I know DC punted the ball better than any other team they have played.

But Souths defense is that good this year. Some of it is the competition and some of it is they are just that good.
