Tim Tebow to Tryout for Jaguars

Featured Replies

:lol2: Already set in stone. 2 wins will still get that first pick. 2 wins for the Jags this year will be remarkable.

The signing of Tebow would do nothing for this franchise. Maybe more media attention but that's it. Tebow would make Henne/Gabbert look like Peyton Manning this year. Just not worth it.

 Tebow is better than either of those guys and it's not all that close. There are roughly 80-90 (some teams only have 2 QBs) on NFL rosters better than Henne or Gabbert right now. There are quite a few that aren't on NFL rosters better than those two.

You're a Tebow guy. Not going to change your opinion on how good he is. What I am saying is that he would be throwing up exactly the same numbers at the helm of the Jags that Henne/Gabbert would.

Usually when making comparison's it helps if you compare like things

Orton went 10-5 with the Bears in '05 (better than TT's 8-8) and his team went to the playoffs. He was then ousted as a starter. I would say that's a like thing.

Tebow won in the NFL.

He is 9-7 lifetime as a starter including playoffs. Not exactly Tom Brady like numbers, or even Rex Grossman, who is 25-22 as a starter lifetime, or Matt Hasselbeck who is 80-72 lifetime.

I'm still waiting for those so many TT defenders out there to show me, to prove to me, why he deserves to be a starting QB, why he deserves another shot, and not one of these other journeyman QB's. Show me the evidence and track record. What are you basing your overwhelming love affair on?

First off, Tebow went 7-4 that year. They were 1-4 when he took over.

Secondly, you do realize winning 9 of 16 games projects out to better records than either Grossman or Hasselbeck in the same number of starts, right? That little tidbit really helped your argument. :lol2:

He took a team that was one of the worst 2-3 teams in the league, and completely turned them around over night. I don't care what his "numbers" looked like. He won. He got them into the postseason and then he won a game once there. That's all that matters, winning. He did that, then never got an opportunity to succeed or fail elsewhere. He deserves an opportunity over scrubs like Henne or Gabbert. They are the worst two QBs in the NFL. Neither has shown any signs of being capable of playing in the NFL.

@FOXSports Apparently there was a plane carrying a banner reading 'Tebow, Why Not?' flying around Jags stadium during the game: Laces Out ? NFL on FOX Blog

Yes he did win. But he was for the most part, a below average QB, that made a couple of big plays, whose defense kept him in games. He completed only 46% of his passes and AVERAGED 123 yards passing per game that year, with multiple games under 100 yards. The Broncos were next to last in overall passing in the league that year (31st out of 32 teams, just ahead of Jacksonville). Josh Freeman statistically was slightly better than Tebow that year....how has his career turned out over time?? The Bronco's were also number 1 in the league rushing the ball, so one could argue the offensive success they had, had very little to do with Tebow. This is a passing league, and those numbers over time, will not lead to long term success. There's a reason why he isn't getting a chance anywhere else, and it has nothing to do with who he is....it has everything to do with how he plays.

Had the same rushing attack and defense when Orton was the starter....Only thing that changed was the QB. He won, simply as that. I don't care what his numbers were.

So if Brady wasn't the QB at NE, would you want him to be your starter?

Depends on who the other options are. I wouldn't mind him being given a chance to win the job though. Actually, knock on wood, if Brady were to go down, I'd be shocked if the Patriots didn't bring Tebow back to NE. They only carry two QBs, so Mallet is all they have and Tebow knows the offense.

As I've said, he's not great, heck he may not even be good, but he's won in his only opportunity at this point. A team like the Jaguars are stupid for not at least giving him a shot. Worst case scenario, they sell more tickets and go winless. Best case scenario, they sell more tickets and he actually wins them some games and makes the respectable in others.

Numbers do mean something over time. And over time, those just aren't even close to winning numbers. And you can't ignore that. And while he won more than Orton, look at how much better they were with Peyton Manning the following year. In the last 30 years, no QB whose numbers have been as bad as Tebow's were has been a consistent winner. I will say, that rating wise, he was a few places higher than Gabbard that year.

Again, I've never said he's great or even good. Just that a bad team is stupid for not at least giving him a chance.

And of course Denver got a ton better. They went out and replaced him with one of the top 10 QBs of all time. I'd expect every team in the league outside of NE, GB, and NO to have gotten markedly better if they added Peyton.

While I agree with a lot if what you said here, the fact of the matter is the kid got 1 chance for half a year and that's it. Good thing they kept Peyton Manning around after his horrendous 1st chance he got as a rookie. By No means am I saying TT would be as good as PM. Kid just never really got a chance.

If Tebow was good enough to be a starting QB, he would be. Simple as that. Not a QB some terrible team pulls in to try to generate some positives out of a completely wasted season.

I no longer consider this a wasted season for the Jaguars. The is the season that lead us to get Teddy B!

Remember, Manning completed, 57% of his passes, for nearly 4000 yards and averaged almost 2 TD passes a game his rookie year. He wasn't great, but he was pretty good, and a lot better than Tebow. Aside from record, Tebow, was pretty bad.
