Who wins this 2A District 4 showdown of unbeaten?

I'm going against conventional thinking and picking Bardstown. I think they could be a 2A power on the rise...maybe not this season but watch out for them.

IMO Desales will blow them out by at least 4 TDs. Bardstown has athletes but Desales has everything.

Game will be played at Southern High School's field. Forecast calls for fall weather, sunshine and daytime high of 80 degrees. Possibly some rain Wednesday, but otherwise turf should be relatively dry. Bardstown struggled in the first half monsoon at Ft. Knox Friday. Bardstown has won the past two meetings, including 2 years ago when the Tigers were underdogs on Desales' turf.

Well, at least the turf they play their games on. DeSales has never had a home field, have they? I know I saw them play once at Iroquois. And they've played some games at Manual. I guess they just have to work out a deal with wherever they can find.

Correct. Years ago they played a few games at Holy Cross, and I know they've played at Manual. Southern has been their turf for several years. Desales has been really good for a while now, one might hope that the Archdiocese would buy them a field? Maybe Getslow or some of our Louisville Catholics could comment.

I don't know precisely what DeSales particular affiliation with the archdiocese is these days, so I'm not certain about whether the archdiocese would be on the hook for that. In the case of Trinity, they don't have any such direct affiliation with the archdiocese and so I believe any purchases of property or the development of that property are the responsibility of Trinity's school board. DeSales may be in the same boat.

Did not know that. Bardstown Bethlehem has a direct tie to the Archdiocese.

Is Southern's field turf or real grass? I would think two varsity teams (and presumably JV and Frosh) would be hard on a grass field. Does DeSales pay any type of rent for usage?

Can't speak for DeSales, but NewCath shells out about $1500 per game at Newport Stadium, maybe that's why the Breds only have 3 home games this season. :idunno:

The website says they are a "self-sufficient Archdiocese-sponsored" school.

Welcome to DeSales High School

Trinity is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Louisville as well. The financial ties are limited to none.

Colts roll!!!! Too much talent for the Tigers this season. 35-14 is my prediction.

See DeSales President for details of how different DeSales' deal differs from Trinity's purchase of their independence in the 80s. DeSales and Holy Cross were "given" their freedom to operate by the Archdiocese recently.

Bardstown by 7 their Defense is good.
