September 19, 201313 yr I never heard anything about an AR-15. The only reports of guns I saw were on Twitter, and it said shotgun from the beginning... Fox's affiliate specifically asked the reporter to give info on an AR-15.
September 19, 201313 yr AR-15 is the generic brand name for the type of gun. Of course it is almost synonymous with the ill-defined term "assault rifle". And the term "assault rifle" was intentionally sensationalized by Josh Suggerman back in the 70's to intentionally spread fear of guns to the general public. Oddly, coincidentally Josh Suggerman hails from Newtown, CT. I thought this guy was on an balcony overlooking a cafeteria, not really close range. So the spread should have been fairly wide. Likely to hit more people but seems it should resulted in a lot more injuries vs. fatalities. There must be a lot of people injured.
September 19, 201313 yr Interesting article.... BBC News - Navy Yard: Swat team 'stood down' at mass shooting scene "A tactical response team of the Capitol Police, a force that guards the US Capitol complex, was told to leave the scene by a supervisor instead of aiding municipal officers. ... "I don't think it's a far stretch to say that some lives may have been saved if we were allowed to intervene," a Capitol Police source familiar with the incident told the BBC."

I asked a Policeman in DC how many different police agencies there were in DC and he said way more that 40 but he wasn't sure. You would like to think that each of them would work together during events like this. If they were ordered to stand down then someone should at least lose their job over this.

I read an article that said police were on scene and entering the building less than 7 minutes after the first 911 calls came in. That's pretty fast. I also read they formed up and entered with AR's and engaged the gun man almost immediately.

I also read they formed up and entered with AR's and engaged the gun man almost immediately. First CERT team to arrive was told to stand down for some unknown reason. They were either Park Police or Capitol Police I think...radio traffic is being reviewed to see who gave that order. He could have been engaged sooner than he was according to those reports.

Well reports I read said the first police were on scene in two minutes and entered in less than 7. Not sure where there would have been time to turn someone away or who would have been there to do so. Very odd. I guess we will have to wait and find out what happened.

Yeah seems to be several conflicting reports on this, as there always is on these types of events.
September 20, 201313 yr I read an article that said police were on scene and entering the building less than 7 minutes after the first 911 calls came in. That's pretty fast. I also read they formed up and entered with AR's and engaged the gun man almost immediately. I'd say it would be pretty hard to respond any faster than 7 minutes.

September 20, 201313 yr Talk about dealing with your share of violence: Saw a story that NFL WR Josh Morgan's mother worked at the Naval Yard....She was there, but unharmed. It doesn't end there though. Morgan played at VaTech when the shooting occurred there, and his mother worked at the Pentagon during 9/11. How unlucky is that? Makes you feel fortunate to never having been exposed to this kind of pure evil.

At the same time, you'd have to feel lucky for having survived all those incidents.
