September 19, 201312 yr I read the excerpt that was posted. It was clear about the 23% reduction in scoring and I don't have a problem with that, nor do I think it's wrong. However, there's still a chance of scoring based on more things than math, like the situation. Yes there's always still a chance but why reduce the chances willingly?
September 19, 201312 yr Yes there's always still a chance but why reduce the chances willingly? Because the next two batters matter. For example, I would bunt Hanigan in a big situation to get to a pinch hitter with a runner on 2B then Choo. He's a DP guy and terrible hitter. I like my chances bunting there better than him hitting away. Especially if he already got his hit that month.
September 19, 201312 yr Still, a DP ends the inning. But, I understand your point, anything out of the infield scores Hamilton. I'm just saying you had a guy on the bases that could've made it 2nd and 3rd (or 1st and 3rd) with no outs, and your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hitters coming up. And in that scenario, I want them to HAVE to throw Hamilton out at the plate. And if they throw to Votto with a drawn in infield, I know...not likely, it increases your chances even more. And from the looks of their manager he didn't care about the outcome. He left a dude out there late in a tied game after throwing 8 straight balls. He can't wait for this season to end.

I thought the same thing when the ball dropped between the shortstop and left fielder earlier. This guy can't wait to get out of town. :lol2:

September 19, 201312 yr I know most of the comments have been in jest, but I've read more than once this season that a lot of people around the game think Porter has a heck of a managerial career ahead of him, and is doing a great job, given the circumstances.
September 19, 201312 yr Could Billy Hamilton's entrance to MLB be any better? 2 of his steals last night came on pitch-outs! He looked great at the plate and respectable in the field. (It would have been nice to seem him go all out up the grade in center for the double that dropped over his head, but his defense was fine.) Stolen base percentage @ 100 and holding.

I was really hoping he would've hit a scorcher into one of the gaps....Run Billy Run! And I can't wait to see the 1st time he's on 1st with 2 outs and a 3-2 count....Score from first on a single?
September 19, 201312 yr I was really hoping he would've hit a scorcher into one of the gaps....Run Billy Run! He stole second the other day and Hanigan hit that ball down the line to win it. I told my son that I wish he was still on first.
September 19, 201312 yr The vast majority of teams bunt in that situation...yet BGP disagrees. That's stats back up BGP. You tell me who is wrong?
September 19, 201312 yr That's stats back up BGP. You tell me who is wrong? Are we really going to do this again? That stat had nothing to do with the situation I was talking about. Zero.
